In keeping with the colors of the season, here is a recent and serviceable addition to my roster. I am still soft on the matching caboose! If you look close, you can see the red elastics used for replacement traction tires (thanks to Wal-mart and the colored "Goody Girl" elastics now in stock. Still, I shouldn't complain about 100 tires for $3!) After 25+ years, the old Tyco Shark is back on the homemade test track and layout.

Alway liked that American. Basis for a nice modern 30's? version I thought.

That kerosene headlamp would date it to the 1890s-1900s...Mehano even made sure that the lamp would glow yellow, they did a great job overall on this one.

Before and after pics of my 1961 vintage PFM/United brass Southern PS4 Pacific, just got her back from my custom painter. The fancy passenger colors of the Southern are beyond my painting ablities. I also repowered with a large Sagami can motor with single flywheel. Cheers Mike

Still NT's, I have Aspergers.

I've been wanting to post this one for some time now. It's another from a $3 "junk" pile at the last show. When I cleaned off the quarter-inch of dust, it's a nice Athearn GP-9, in Mopac blue. Half the handrails are original, the other side and ends are made from Athearn stanchions and bent wire. I need to work on the color-they look almost black in the pics.

Sorry for the bad pics...still using the "old" camera.

Hey Burlington:
It's a train forum not a photobug one, don't worry about it. Salvaging is fun isn't it?

Burlington, I love picking up the diamonds in the rough. The ones they say don't run, just need some TLC...

| Yep, I love diamonds in the rough. No need paying ridiculous ebay prices when a little elbow grease gets great results. I really, really, fell in love with this loco when I brought it home.

Here's my Rivarossi 0-4-0 during its ongoing overhaul and detailing this week. The old CNJ lettering washed off with the water I used to clean the dust off! Oh well, I was going to make it Rio Grande, anyway...

Upcoming work includes rebuilding the front axle bearings, adding a bell cord, and a rear headlight atop the cab, made from a small dowel wrapped with cardstock for depth. I might also add an air tank using the same method astride the top of the boiler, behind the dome. I'll print out some colored Rio Grande heralds and sand them down before sticking them to the centers of the tanks with thinned glue, to get the look of thin sheet metal heralds mounted on the sides. Hopefully the end product won't look quite so...well, Italian.

Yes, something like that. Just minus the big red cowcatcher. Although a set of antlers on the headlight might be in order.
