I see a few of these floating around.
Has anyone assembled one stock standard?
Do they run ok once assembled, or do they require a lot of tweaking to get a smooth run?

But don't be suprised to hear that his eyes are crossed while discussing them! They are a challenge though likely less so to him...

There is a book written for making mods to this unit....

The MDC Shays are a challenge.
I built the first on with the tweeks discribed in the book "MDC Shay Handbook" .
It ran but I wasn't happy with it.
Here is a link to one of the threads I did on rebuilding one.

It will give you an idea of what is involved. I did do alot of cosmetic alterations too which aren't necessary to make it run well.
