Ok, so if you've seen my other post (Track Problems) you know that I am having problems running my locomotives on my track reliably. I cleaned both the track and the pickup wheels religously, but to no avail. I got a lot of improvement, but there are some tracks that just cannot be cleaned, they have rust and other defects on them (never trust ebay . . . ) I think to avoid further frustration and hair loss ( ) I am going to solve the problem once and for all and fork over the mony for brand spankin' new nickel silver track. Hopefully it won't cost a fortune, but I'm sure it will be worth it. The new problem is that I ballasted about a fourth of my track without testing it (obviously a very stupid thing to do) and I need to know how to remove the ballast, and if I can reuse it. I don't really care about reusing the track because I'm just gonna toss it anyway, and it doesn't matter that much if I can't reuse the ballast. So fire away. Thanks for the help.

Pull any track nails then spray the ballasted area with windshield washer fluid. (soak the area pretty good) Once the WW fluid soaks in use a putty knife to clean the ballast off the roadbed.
