This is a Marx F3 that I bought at an antique store for a buck. It runs good and 8 wheel drive using a shaft to the front truck. BTW I'm posting this in between church meetings this AM.

| That's the beauty of antique stores...you never know what you'll find. In my experience, an item like this will either be trash (priced low, laying in a pile) or treasure (ridiculously overpriced, in a glass case)...there's never any middle ground.

Excellent Ken. BTW, I bought the Marx close to 25 years ago but it was a bargain still. It runs great.

Here's another one from the bargain rack. I found the shell in a box of parts I had laying around, found the PT motor in another box, put them together and here you have it. I added window glazing too. The motor and side frames look to be from an SD24. I like the look of these side frames on the 430. Tom

This one's a first for me...my first Fleischmann, my first metal HO locomotive, and the first steamer I actually enjoy:

It came in the auction lot I got Friday. See the garage sale thread for the rest of it. The paint is rough, especially on the tender, but it runs GREAT. I only had to do one slight repair...the gear that attaches directly to the motor was slipping on its axle. One carefully placed dab of glue saved the day!
So I'm only beginning to learn about Fleischmann. Are these hard to find?

Ken I just bought one of those the other day for a friend. Awesome runner we are very impressed with it, plus the detail is darn good also.
So at the Greenberg show I caved in and bought this.

It's a Bowser PRR T1. It has the dual motor setup and it runs good. However the wheels on the tender keep touching the truck frames and grounding the loco out in left hand turns. There are a few other small maintenance things it needs, but its fine for the most part it just needs cleaned up. Eventually I'll strip it down properly and paint it the usual PRR green (black) with as much added detail and it will hold. Speaking of which this thing weight's like 5lbs I swear. NOTHING in the fleet is even close on weight.

| The T1 gets somewhat of a bad rap. Turns out recently documents from the C&O have surfaced when they tested the T1 to see if they would be interested in using the design for their railroad. PRR engineers would report massive slippage from the drivers. Where as in the C&O report it was vary rarely reported and they passed the T1 as having average starting ablities. Looking back its now believed the difference was in the engineers between the two roads. Before the T1 the PRR engineers were use to running the small K4's which acted totally different than the T1 under throttle. The C&O engineers were use to large articulated steam locomotives and were trained well on how to run them, so the T1 would be no different. Very few PRR engineers were given training on how to properly handle the T1 and would apply the throttle much to quickly, causing the slippage. Still despite the C&O test of the T1, it still wasn't perfect. And for the PRR it was easier to start buying diesels rather than fix the issues with the T1.

heh neat ty for the info Sounds like this loco would of been better as a 4-8-4 But will keep a lookout for these locos in HO I think it has a neat but unusual wheel arrangement
