Does anyone have an information on this neat little creature?

Hi NYC,
I see I wasn't the only one watching this auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160373041571
Bookmark this site: http://www.rivarossi-memory.it/ENGLISH_VERSION/index_Eng.htm
Here is their brief summary of this little switcher, which could have been a European (probably Italian) prototype, or complete fantasy.
http://www.rivarossi-memory.it/ENGLISH_VERSION/Riva_American_Locos/Riva_A_DA-R_Eng.htm
From the photos it's obvious that there were versions with wrap-around handrails with stanchions on top of the hood, while the US Army model only has grab iron style railings.

I was watching it too. I thought it was cool piece. I would have picked it up if the price remained low but I think it fetched around $75, which was too much to throw at a curiousity piece for me. Thanks to both for the info. That site is great, I'll be visiting it often.
I found it funny that the gentleman agreed with my perception of this engine. To quote; "Models built in the period 40-50 were of dubious reproduction of real life models." That quote was found on the page describing this very engine.

Which reminds me, NYC, shouldn't we have a links section in the sidebar where essential resources like Rivarossi Memory and HOSeeker can be listed? We have Tony Cook's site linked, but as far as I can see that's the only one.
Just a thought.

We could do that. I'll post a new topic requesting a top 10 list from everyone.

A friend of mine has the AristoCraft varient...it runs like a watch. He uses it to drive the purists nuts at the club. Bought it for $10 at a swap meet.

Interesting Shaygetz. I guess these were imported by Aristo in the days before AHM formed. And I can just imagine those rivet counter's veins bulging, lol.
