The CNJ Trainmasters * A little better photo of the H24-44 trainmasters. * First one from the first order by CNJ to Fairbanks Morris. These were specially geared for higher speed. It was a item requested by CNJ that was not in the FM catalog as a option. FM designed it for this group of trainmasters. * On these locomotives the dynamic break detail had to be removed. It was the roof vent fan and two intake air side louvers, one on each side. Various other smaller louvers had also to be removed and on one a new louver installed on each side. So these are not stock Athearn TM's any more.*
CNJ loco #2403

* This one is from the second order from FM. These were all geared for freight service.
* CNJ loco #2409

If you model the 1850's to 1890's very common sight at big cities. Particularly on the Pennsylvania RR. They had very many American types. When other RR companies aquired trains of other wheel araingement for different assignments, the Pennsy's Junnata shops changed the boiler, the frame, and the driver size to make another 4-4-0 to do the same job. Maybe that is where the name standard railroad came from.

* The layout railstock is always changing here at Frankford. A crash on another branch has rerouted additional freight trains into the Frankford yard for reclassification. This is the maxium the yard will hold. You can see in the photo that the two main lines are the only tracks open. Actualy back along the main yard two trains are stopped. * In actuality I have brought out the trainminature car. They fill all aviable tracks. I have more but no room for them. They will be run to keep them loose. Frank

Whoa... how did I miss that pic at the top of the page? That's awesome! If a scene like that didn't eat so much real estate, I'd have one now. What does that cover, at least a 4x6 space?
Like the last pics of the full yard too. Always fun to imagine what might be in there.

I never measured the yard. I like early railroads kinda built and filled all that I could with yard. THe board along the wall is 2 feet wide and 18 feet long. The yard starts at about 5 1/2 feet of that length. That is where the first switch of the yard ladder is. It continues the length of the back wall and curves to the front board. frank

Frank, This has been quite a journey and you have made quite a bit of progress on your layout and with the models. Really nice work! I would like it if mine looked that good. Your son did a great job on the SW PRR Switcher too. Keep us informed.

* Thank you for the nice comment on my sons work. I like it to. You should see his almost all scrachbuilt, CNJ 4-8-0 camelback. * As you can tell I do like model railroading. At 65 scenery has slipped away. I set scenes with track, buildings, trains, people, cars, and trucks. The place I want to work on for scenery is the full length of the Veterans Housing. The 3 storied apartment complex that hides the sides of my control board. I dream of a side walk the length of it. A low walled in closed green park area, with trees, bushes and grass, the length also. There will still be enough room for a street. The entire with extending out from the building would be 30 scale feet. The walkway would be 6 feet wide and the remanding 24 feet the total with of the green park area. A green place for the old veterans to come out of their houses then sit and talk to old friends and neighbors. It is just a idea. I think a good one. If I do no other scenery work, I would like to do this.
