hi erich,my point was that its fatal when someone sees the word rare,up goes the prices,your one is a bit below a fair price but his for one that has been retouched and needs attention is far to dear for unboxed item ken

Wow, those Rivarossi Hiawathas go for a lot, but it can't be worth anywhere near that. Setting the starting bid too high is a good way to waste your listing fees, and apparently there are a lot of sellers who enjoy doing just that. 
Fortunately, my tastes tend to run a little cheaper, since I really dislike most streamlined steam. The idea of covering up everything that makes a steam loco fascinating is a crime, IMHO. I'd prefer to get my hands on the standard Rivarossi Atlantic. I've seen a few of them without any zinc rot up for auction, but never had the $$.

Erich, I just noticed that it looks like this loco had a Pittman style open frame motor, visible in the photo of the underside in the auction that Ken linked. I guess this was made before Rivarossi designed their own.
