This is an Mehano C430 engine that was just shipped to me, nothing special, but a nice example with all wheel drive. The seller shipped it in a padded envelope, wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap, so there was some repairable damage. I posted my question in "Loose Ends" about this one. The Tyco Collectors Resource site says these were in Tyco sets in the early '90s and probably only sold in sets. There was a Virginian painted version too..

WOW! I cant belive someone would send an item like that packaged in such a way. I think you got lucky that the damage was minimal. Does the locomotive run decent? I always thought those Mehano drives ran fairly well as long as the wheels were kept clean.

I had a seller send a mint Rivarossi U25C shell in a padded envelope. Naturally, it was crushed like an eggshell when I received it. Fortunately, the seller did refund my money including shipping, but then yelled at me and said he'd shipped them all over the globe like that, and I was the first complaint he'd had.

One front ladder was broken and hanging, horn damage, 2 broken stanchion but was repairable. I got off lucky NP759. I Had asked the seller to "pack carefully those handrails are fragile!"
It's complete and runs great after cleaning the wheels.
This C430 has a different horn set up than several listed on the 'bay and made by Model Power. I wonder if that says anything about when it was made and for who?

I just picked up the Model Power release of this engine. It had been on the shelf of my LHS for almost 15 years. It runs great like other Mehanos. Sorry to hear about the railing damage. I also just picked up an Alco RS by Model Power. It was new in the box and had a cracked railing. These thisngs are fragile.

I don't know about the horns, but do all Mehano C-430's have that funky looking fuel tank? Where did they get the idea it was that shape?

Here's an auction Pic to look at the horns. Mine runs nicely for such a tiny Mehanoteknica can motor. yes the tanks look like that and I believe there is an explanation for that which I can find out about. I think that tank is one like the RS1s may have had.

The horns appear staggered much more than mine

NP759,
Here's a link that shows an RS1 Alco that looks as if it has a tank like these C430s.

http://paintshop.railfan.net/images/belanger/rs-1.html

I think the curved ends of the tank are braces more toward the center of the frame so that it only looks this way in 2 dimensions.

I stopped by one of my local LHS's which has a lot of used stuff, from trains to all kinds of diecast neat stuff and other collectables from my childhood...

I spotted this engine on the shelf as a latest entry to his bought collections stuff because I like the old CP, CN colours.

I picked it up and found out it was Atlas (of which I don't have any after all these years) and it was priced at $10. It says on the bottom trucks, Atlas made in Austria.

It is a custom paint job, rough in some places. I have not yet cleaned and lubed it, but I did reluctantly put it on my bench test track. It ran right away without any hesitation back and forth like a Swiss watch...

Here it is with all it's blemishes, (already weathered???)

Any Atlas collectors know what year range this could be in?

That's a great find. You could probably touch that up with a fine brush and craft store acrylic paint and make it even nicer.

And some masking tape. Something the previous owner clearly didn't bother with.

Mike,
You may have posted it but there are two CP F units in the "Real Trains" post currently in "Loose Ends". I think the colors on your's are very accurate.
I'd have bought that one too.

Atlas FP-7
Early 1960's I am guessing.
Austria = ROCO Ro... Company

I bet it has a nice little hum/gurgle to it.

That motor will last forever, too. They were first built late WWII as aileron motors.

This locomotive is a great keeper and dependable as well.
A bit of cozmetic surgery, and you have a minty-like running locomotive.

Congrats' on your purchase!

J/Z

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.
"I love your catenary!"
Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Thanks for the info J/Z.

I was tripping over myself when I saw it and the price.
