That someone at Atlas reads this forum?
Or maybe my own or the other websites I've posted my work on over the last several years?
I'm referreing to the STC, and its design... and the typeface and logotypes which are a big part of that:

Pay attention to the font I use for the "Saint Canard Midland" herald and reporting marks. This font is called "Slicker". In 2001 I bought a CD-Rom of nothing but fonts... 7,000 of them in fact. In 2002 I chose that ONE font of the 7,000 and made it my own for purposes of a model railroad. In 2003 I obtained the means to print the decals, and in 2005 I began posting the results online. Not in too many places, but it seemed to make an impression where I did...
So look what Atlas is using in their latest ads!

Can you say "uncanny"? I just can't help but wonder....
(By the way, this is NOT the first time a design I made has been extensively borrowed by another company, for profit. For an even more amazing example, see my Nascar design at this page: http://www.goingincirclez.com/Automodels/LBR . Sometimes I really do think I am in the wrong line of work...)

I have Slicker on my computer, and I've used it before. It's an attractive font, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it in use elsewhere. It could just be a coincidence.
That said, your Saint Canard Midland has the best freelance schemes I've seen, ought to be a real railroad. If Atlas starts painting rolling stock in SCM, then I'd start thinking about a copyright infringement suit.

LOL don't get me wrong; if that actually happened it would be the coolest. thing. ever! Would save me a bunch of time too... especially if they sent a casepack or two my way, ha ha.
I know a "font" is essentially public domain, but it's still very interesting to me: 7 / 8 years ago, people even asked if *I* made the whole font since they'd never seen it before, and as you say, it IS an attractive font. But I've been using it exclusively for years in my branded works... then all of a sudden you see it in Dell manuals, Halo commercials, other print ads, and you merely think "Hey neat, this font is the fad of the moment yet I was far ahead of the curve for once".
But when a leading manufacturer in the same hobby suddenly adopts that font - when it has no stylistic relation to anything else they do, AND they continue use Times Roman in the bulk of the copy - well that's pretty amazing, to me. Very likely a coincidence, but still... what a coincidence, eh? Of ALL the thousands upon thousands of attractive non-seriff available, they just randomly pick THAT one? I mean I'm no Allen McClelland, but.... really?
But I enjoy it, honestly. It's just something worth chuckling about, if a little frustrating on another level.

I can't see it. Must be looking at the wrong parts of the Locos. Admittedly, the Atlas small print on the Locos is hard to read - but if you look at the number '305' on the Atlas 'Pan Am Railways', then at your 3 and 5 on the blue SCM Hopper, they look quite different to me. BTW, the SCM 'Slicker' fonts look very clean & well executed

Hi Tanked,
It took me a minute too but I think GIC is talking about the part that says "PRE-ORDER ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ATLAS" and the web info. at the bottom.

I enjoyed seeing your custom work again GiC. Slicker was a good choice for the STC.

The royalties wouldn't be bad, either.
