Hi All,
About a year ago I received this first house as a birthday gift. My then 9 year old was blown away by it. He helped me put down the grass and drive way. He really likes the hands on stuff. From that point on he was hooked on these little houses and wanted one of his own. He would look at the box it came in all the time and point out the one he wanted for his birthday.

Well who am I to disapoint my little guy and fellow model railroader? This year for his birthday he got NOTHING!!! Just kidding LOL!! He got an Amtrak observation end car and his house. Well once he had house in hand he was on the hunt for some land. With no luck Finding available land, He went to the Mayor (Mom) and city planner (Dad) to see if they had anything. Sadly at that time we had nothing to offer. We had been batting around the idea of moving the Fire Department from the outskirts of town to the city center though.
Fire station on outskirt of town

Once the city of Roseville closed down the scrapper for multiple violations of city code #1"THOU SHALT NOT STORE RAIL CARS IN THE CITY OF ROSEVILLE UNLESS THEY ARE ON RAILS".
Scrapper.
The city moved quickly to move the fire department to it's new location in the city center.

Once the young man heard that the city had moved the fire station, he rushed right down to city hall to make an offer on the property. His offer was accepted and construction began at once. The young man is very pleased with his new home.

I'm not so good at story telling but I thought I would give it a try.
Thanks for reading. Mike

Hi All,
Thanks Tycotrains.
Microbusss, the blue car is a Bachmann cattle car.
The yellow engine is a Lionel (Athearn made) Hustler. If i'm not mistaken.

Thanks Mike

Hi Cheez
Thanks for the nice coments. The houses are made by a company called Imex. The are made of what I believe is some kind of resin and are a one piece mold. They run between $18 and $20. The web site is: www.imex-model.com I could not get the site to come up tonight.
Thanks Mike

I'm not so sure the owner choose a good spot for building. I mean a mainline in the front yard is going to kill resale value. Not to mention it looks like he built on the edge of a cliff? And there appears to be a absurd amount of wild stallions roaming around, i'd be pretty fearful of something like that.....
Seriously that's a pretty cool birthday gift, I'm sure it made his day! I have to ask I really like alot of the cars you have around town. Mostly matchbox/hotwheels I take it?

Hi ChrisC,
Yea, the owner says he likes living on the edge LOL! It also proves the world really is flat. Space is hard to come by in our little 4'x4' world. Roseville may be small but we had our own drive in at one time LOL!
But like any growing town we needed room for a fast food joint and police department so the Drive-in had to go.
Anyway, Back to your question. Most of the cars and trucks on the layout are Matchbox because I collect them and they are more realistic looking compared to Hot Wheels. The biggest reason I use Matchbox and Hot wheels though is the cost, Only about $1 each instead of the insane $$$$ they want for HO scale vehicles.
I like to try my hand every now and then at painting a car for the layout. Here are some I did a long time ago. I should have painted the interior of the pick up. I guess I should have started another post rather than edit this old one, Sorry. Anyway, sorry to ramble.
Mike

Hi All,
Microbusss, Sadly the drive in did not really operate, though I did toy with the idea of putting an LCD screen in it. But the Great One and I decided that we will wait on something like that for our full size layout. Because our full size layout will use actual model buildings and be much more realistic and NOT have Legos on it LOL! We kind of think of this little layout as our practice layout.
Mike, That is some very nice work on the round house. Will you be adding more stalls? Who made the kit?
I think my next project will be to turn this Tyco kit into something along the lines of a flea market. Any thoughts or ideas on how to make that happen?

Wow ... that's a pretty big police force for Roseville!

Yeah - Imex's website looks like it is kaputt. A lot of larger layouts I've seen use Imex models in the background or places far enough back that fine detail isn't required.

Hi HOScale Model Railroader,
We here in Roseville keep trouble to a minimum with shear numbers LOL! I hope Imex didn't die, I wanted to get the rest of the line.
Thanks for the heads up on the link.

Hi All,
Looks like I have caused some confusion here. I should have replied to this thread rather than edit one of my posts. It's my fourth post down from the top that I show two trucks and a black car that I painted.
Sorry.

"I think my next project will be to turn this Tyco kit into something along the lines of a flea market. Any thoughts or ideas on how to make that happen?"
Well, you just need a bunch of tables rolled out in the yard around the building, more cars than legally possible squeezed in the parking lot (and lawn, and road leading to it). Add it some people posed with looks of shock (at asking prices) amazement (at some strange item being sold) and of course somebody who looks too out of place to be at a flea market.
Make it as zany as you want, with scrap parts, statues, and any odd thing you can think of for sale. Then it will look just like the Bellmore NY flea market, just as long as you put it near the tracks
