Finally got one of these buggers. It's a nice paint scheme, maybe even my favorite of all Tyco's "fantasy" lines.

I don't really know Mike, but the big "Southern" on the side of the tender is pretty wonky lookin'.

Yea I know. I have seen variations of the size of the "Southern" name.
Anyone know the reason?

GIC, How does that Durango GP-20 run? I picked one up like yours, "new in box", never could get it to run well even after lots of troubleshooting. I did also pick up the matching Floodlight car, which is really neat. It's my understanding there's no Durango caboose, the sets came with the floodlight cars.

I like my GP20 Durango, but its nowhere near as clean as yours
So I got a early birthday present this week. Something I saw in a local hobby store, and decided it was way to much money to spend on such a engine. I goto my friend's layout to find this waiting for me.
MTH Pennsylvania K4. I've been wanting a K4 for a long time, but all the good ones cost to much. I was going to give in and just get a Bachmann. But now I have this thing and I really don't even know how to handle it. We are running it DC, but it would be way better off DCC. Makes all kinds of sounds, LED lighting up front & lighted cab, and you can hit the reverse on the fly and it will slow down can changed direction its own. Not only does it smoke, but when it "chugs" it times the smoke puffs with it. I told my friend new are never getting something this advanced again, its raising the bar to high for the other engines lol.

Congrats GiC and Mike. I'm mostly a diesel fan but that K4 is enough to convert a fella! Thanks men.

An MTH? That's like the complete opposite of a Tyco!

You mean MTH isn't Mantua-Tyco House? Here's another on the GP20 theme.

I just rebuilt a Durango GP20 for my nephew. The pinion gear had come off and was lost. I wound up replacing the whole power truck with another from my junk box. I have had several of those pinion gears come loose on different p/t driven locos.

That would be this set
I honestly thought about taking it up to the layout and posing the GP20 with the K4 just for the fun of it. Mike, my birthday is way out on August 6th, I just think my friend wanted to see the engine and make sure nobody else bought it haha. And Alco fan nice Cayman!

Now I want to get a Durango Geep. What years were they made? I see some with plastic and some with metal handrails.
