A new Alco that came with 3 others. A Gen I C430 with the nose herald, my first with that. The '68-'69 catalog has a PC F9 passenger set and this Alco has the same road number font as the SF C430 in that catalog. This came with 4301 number boards. I have one that came with 5628 number boards all around and one with 5628 on the cab sides. This guy is a darker green than the other two. Apparently the white P and orange C was was only used a short while on the Penn Central. The Tyco Collectors Resource site mentions the PC C430 with the red and white herald but the example pictured, if it has a herald on the nose, has white cab numbers visible and this example has red road numbers.

neat loco did PC ever have that paint scheme IRL? You knows how some manufactures such as Tyco & Life-Like like to make fake schemes

PC never had that kind of green to my knowledge. But it has been around in Tyco since '69. I'm not sure how they made that choice. NYC had a green on their box cars and PRR was a Brunswick green, that looked almost black, but the PC locos where a flat black. Here are two variations with 5628 number boards as delivered to me. The cab numbers are in white and in different fonts, both with no nose heralds, both in the lighter Tyco PC green. Both of these are Gen I MU2 C430s. The 5628 on the right, the first one I bought, has a Gen III replacement sideframe, the original came up missing.

The problem with this paint is not the color, it's what it's on. Penn Central cabooses and boxcars that originated with the New York Central retained their Jade Green paint, with various colors for the PC that replaces the old NYC designation.
But, the PRR and NYC locomotives were not green, they were mostly black, so the most prototypical color for PC diesels is black with white lettering.
Now, I believe the NYC did try out the green paint on one E-8, but whether this got the PC stencil or not I don't know.

Interesting that the herald is a white P and an orange C. While looking at a Dec '04 MR magazine I noticed A PC SD with a red P and white C on the cover. Inside there was an PC Geep with the white P and orange C and in the distance a NH Uboat in McGinnis or Alpert color scheme. It dawned on me that the orange in the logo/ herald might be for the NH orange. The ICC forced PRR and NYC to merge the NH into the PC in '69. The more orange color was seen on Alco 425s and U25Bs from what I have discovered. The more red was seen on GP9s and others. Cool! Source: http://www.geocities.com/pcrrusa/nhrr.html The link logo page disputes and does not mention NH as I do in my theory on the origin of the red and orange colors as part of the logos.

I'm going to go in the steam direction this week. I bought this Mantua Camelback in the '80's. It came with a bonus coupon to mail away for an undecorated Vandy Tender, which I sent away for. I still have it in it's box with grab irons/railings to add yet.
Talk about "Happy Days"...

My loco this week comes as an early birthday present from my girlfriend...a Bachmann GWR Pannier Tank...

After stumbling across my old Thomas the Tank Engine book over winter break and my roommate parading around his Hogwarts Express, I started pining for a pannier...it would have been over $80 direct from GB but she found it on eBay for half that , and cost of shipping was only from somewhere in Illinois.
It's already received the name "Spaz" in much the same way Rev. Awdry's "Duck" got his name for a wobbly axle. Spaz came with crud caked wheels, leading to random operational difficulties. After a bit of cleaning it now runs just as smooth and quiet as any Spectrum steam loco. What surprised me the most about it though was the working sprung buffers!

Yeah, I have to say, out of all the foreign steam locos, the 5700s are my favorites. Now to get my "Inglenook" layout finished for it to do some shunting on!
