Light Screw Removal Tip
Saturday, June 20, 2009

The other night I decided to transfer the running gear of a MU2 GP20 into a MU2 C430 So76 shell. It should only take a few minutes except for the little screw that holds the light and wire in place. I don't have a slotted standard screw driver small enough to fit that screw. What I came up with was to cut the end off of a hairpin, with needle nosed pliers, open it up like a hex wrench and put that in the slot. It worked really well. I was able to use my regular small driver to reinstall the screw in the other loco.

Odd...I figured just about any precision screwdriver set comes with one small enough to fit that screw.

Oh well, your idea is much more interesting!

I couldn't find a screw driver that would work and improvised. What's odd about that?

I've just never come across a screwdriver set that didn't have a screwdriver small enough, that's all.
