I got a shock today when I received an ICG 430 Alco shell in excellent or never assembled condition, without the tank and running gear and noticed the rear numberboards and lights are filled. I compared it to the Gen I, II and III examples I have and it is a Gen I shell probably from the mid '70s, probably '74-'75. We are all familiar with the Gen III Alcos and their filled in rear numberboards and lights.
The slots match the standard MU2 Alco, Gen I, It has the lugs for the screw-in tank and the small pilot opening like the typical Gen Is. The slots for mounting the rear truck on the next variation Gen II are higher on the walkway. Thanks to GiC for pointing this out that the rear truck mounting slots on the Gen I MU2 Alco is right at the walkway level.

You can see the filled lights and numberboards, the post for the srew-in tank and the location of the slot for the rear truck at the walkway.
This is another unexpected variation for the Century 430 Alco. The first MU2 version with filled lights and numberboards I've seen.

All of the Silver streaks produced had filled in number boards also. Some variations of the Spirit of 76 also had filled in number boards.

That's right! The PT versions as far as I can tell all had filled numberboards and rear lights.

I have also noticed that the Mantua Tyco GP20s have filled numberboards and clear lights but both numerboards and lights are filled on the Tyco PT powered Geeps.
