Post a pic of your Tyco or Mantua Tyco Alco to see if you have a Gen II version. Remember that alot of the Spirit of 76s are Gen IIs. Lets see what we find! Here are three of mine. I call this "The Three Alcomigos". The Chessie is a Gen II

Thanks Shaygetz. One PT power and one MU2, or a first and third Gen Alco. Both excellent examples. The So76 looks like it makes the ground rumble as it goes over the crossing.

Great Mike. Another set of excellent specimens. The SOO is an MU2 powered version based on the truck design and the Magnet showing above the truck side frame. The big stripe VGN is a PTpowered based on the slots above the tank. I'm really becoming fond of the SOO paint scheme.

Way to go Cheez. Have a cool summer.
One PT powered and a Gen III and two Mu2 powered and Gen I Alcos. "Very patriotic indeed", spoken as if David McCallem from NCIS spoke the line.

I'm pretty sure this one is a PT. It's hard to tell through the plastic, but all the tabs are black.

I think the CN example in the Tyco Collectors Resource Site is a PT. I have one complete CN Alco that is a MU2. If the round wheel bearings, (2), on the truck have a protrusion in the center and 2 little holes to the inside of the coil springs and 3 leaf springs it's an MU2.
Are the rear numberboards and lights filled?

Yes, the rear numberboards and lights are filled. I just took a closer look and the truck mount ring seems to be made of plastic. So ya....I'm pretty sure it's a PT.

BTW, what are the characteristics or a Gen II? I remember you posting it before, but I don't remember now.

A few shots (action and static)

- Custom painted via ebay; I added the painted grabs and class lights. The freelance roadname "Illinois Northern" fits nicely in the STC's locale and I LOVE the logo and paintscheme, I give high credit to whomever devised it.

- Beautifully custom painted and modified, found at the haunt.

Mike,
We may have a winner!.
This is possibly a Gen II Alco, custom of course. It has the 3 leaf spring truck with no protrusion on the wheel bearings, and we can see it is power torqued because we can see part of the power truck bogey and gears, all Gen II spotting features. BTW the power truck is installed opposite of what the PTs come from the factory. Usually on the brakeman's side we'd see the brush plate of the motor. The back truck is probably reversed if it is running ok.
Can't tell if the numberboards and lights are filled in at the rear or if it has a Mantua Tyco fuel tank but it looks good for you Mike.

The custom Alco is a Gen II! The front Chessie with the faded logo, is Gen I but it's sideframes don't look like they have the protrusion at the wheel bearing but look to have 3 leaf springs and 2 holes inside the sets of coil springs. SS is Gen III and the rear Chessie is Gen I.
Both Chessies have 2 slanted lines below the leaf springs on the side frames. My MU2 So76 is like that. Those lines look like streaks in the plastic and not an actual grove.

Keep your 430s coming!!

Bravo ER109,
I'd say you are a serious Tyco guy and maybe an Alco Fan! I took 2 naps while the page was loading!
I think one of the first So76s you posted is a Gen II. Check your ICG an IC and PM me they or it has filled in rear lights and numberboards along with a light colored Mantua Tyco weight. I hope to score a PRR and GN someday.

Hi AF,
Thanks for the kind words. I started with Tyco trains at age 12, I'm 45 now so I have been collecting for a little while. I'll check the IC & ICG and let you know the configuration of the rear number boards and lights.

Hi Dorptrains,
There are 28 pictured, I have a few duplicates other than the few dup's pictured.

Hey, 109, did one of your ICGs have upside-down couplers? Ahh, I've had bad experiences installing couplers, restarting five times, just because the coupler falls out or is backwards/upside down...

I'll post pix of my 430s when I can, but you know how I am about getting pix posted...

ER109,
Tom your CN Alco is a Gen II. Looking at the side frames I see only three leaf springs. It looks as if there are no tank slots above the walkway and I'll bet your tank weight is light colored like zamac and says Mantua Tyco. I just got one of those in an auction on Monday.
Congrats!
