Hi, I am looking for a new transformer, since my old cheapo Life-Like broke. I found a used Tech II Loco-motion 2500 transformer, and was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with this or one of its kind? Is it reliable and worth the money, or would you not reccommend it? I recently got into the hobby, and I have no idea how to use the momentum, overload, or Power Moniter buttons or the brake and momentum switches on it. Maybe other transformers have these buttons too, I am just trying to figure out what they do and how to use them. Any help would be appreciated.
Here is the kind I am talking about:

Thanks,
-Jacob

| I love mine...BRAKE makes your train stop as though under load, MOMENTUM makes your train pull out and slow down as though under load...the upper three are simply "idiot" lights, like on the dash of your car.

I have had a Tech II, like the one pictures, that I bought used about 10 years ago. I'd buy another one. Much more consistaant power and will make the Tycos run best. Use Tyco trans only if you must.

I have the exact model you have pictured, and while the Momentum and Brake features are nice, I find the fixed DC output to be another good feature.
Honestly though, I feel like my 2500 was a bit of overkill on my layout. Running some longer trains or more of them would really make this pack worthwhile.

Thanks for the advice. For some reason, my life like quit pumping out current, so I chiseled it apart (it was glued together, not screwed ) to try to find the problem, but in the process snapped off part of the actual transformer inside, and also stabbed my hand when the chisel slipped
