I've kinda slowed down with projects now that spring is upon us, but this one was easy. At my work they were throwing out various old PC stuff, including old rewriteable CD cases. You know when you buy a 50 pack of rewriteable CD/DVD's in the store and they are neatly stacked with a clear plactic cover you twist off. I was looking at the plastic cover and though I could make it into something. I cut off the tabs along the bottom. Next make sure you sand it with a very fine sandpaper. This is key because I found out the hard way paint doesn't stick to it very well without sanding I decided to make the roof of mine a different color just to set it apart a little more. The light on top is just a piece of scrap plastic I had painted red, though adding a real light would be easy. You can google any logo you'd like and just print it out, worked great for me. This was the end result.
Like the GN? That was my other project I swapped different wheels onto it.
I could have added more detail to the tank, this was just a prototype. I was going to get wire hanger and bend & paint it to form pipes running up the side. Also my local hobby shop sells ladders, I still might go back and add one going up the side. I'm sure you could think of more, add in some weathering or some pumping equipment on the side, etc. But it was a cheap addition to the layout that I wanted to share!

Great idea! Here's my version. It's not nearly as good as yours, but hey it was my first try. First I tried to spray paint it with white, but the paint dripped and dried unevenly. Then I tried to brush over that with a coat of gray, but the white kept showing through. I ended up spray painting it with a different brand of spray paint. The color was a little different then I expected, but oh well. Then I printed out a Shell logo on a mailing label and cut it out. For the light I just used a headlight from a broken loco, and painted it red with acrylic paint. Is there any way to get it to blink? Or is there something I can get cheaply that will make it blink?

| I had similar drip issues. When I sprayed it again later I stayed roughly 1 1/2 to 2 feet away and kept rotating around it. The coveraged would be a little light. But I'd let it dry for about a minuet, come back and do another light past while moving around it slightly. This worked out and eventually I got a great coat of paint on it that finally stuck with no runs. Its great to see someone else try it though! I don't think it looks too bad at all. You can put some dirt around base, maybe make up some feed pipes or buy some ladder stock and add it on. If I ever get to work on my 2nd container its going to be alot more detailed.

there is paint at hell mart that's specifically for plastic surfaces, too. I wonder if that would make any difference.

I plan to add some staircases, ladder etc. to the tank as soon as I can maybe make some or buy some. I'll try your paint method for the second tank.
