So, I'm sure everyone's had a problem with light-weight train cars at some point or another. I just tried putting pennies into an IHC RPO car, which made it roll better and made it more stable. The only problem though, is that they'd be a little more obvious in a car with more windows. Painting them black would be one option (defacing government coins FTW). What else have you guys used to weigh down train cars?

Years ago, I used to take different size washers and add them to my cars for weight. At lowe's you can get a lot of washers for little money...

I always use coins, and on passenger cars, I stick 'em to the ceiling.

So I guess if you don't want to use coins, I'm not much help to you.

My friend just got a hookup on a supply of those stick on wheel weights. They weigh 1/2 a ounce and two of them in car will usually do the trick. Lately I've been keeping them low as possible and I usually put them right on top the trucks inside the car. This seems to yield the best riding results.

As far as cheaper things. Washers and I've even seen nails used in one of my older boxcars haha.

I got a Russel plow last year at a swap meet that easily had 60+ 1 1/2" finishing nails stuffed in it...yikes.

I use egg sinkers from Walmart, I flatten them with a hammer to fit then use an adhesive caulk to mount them.
