Hello -
Great to find this group! I already have learned a vital piece of info: my Tyco engines have (correction - SHOULD have) traction tires.
Recently, someone gave me a 30-year old box of HO, mostly Tyco/Mantua. I am fixing them up for a grandson of a friend. I myself am an O-scaler. Most of the freight cars have cleaned up nice, just needed brake wheels (what happens to brake wheels? Is it like socks in the dryer?).
1. Where do I get new traction tires? Is this a standard HO item? Or do I need Tyco tires?
2. Two engines are missing all or part of their handrails. Smokey Valley advertises kits. Are these what I should buy?
3. What are the specs for the little light bulbs? Many are burnt out. Where can I get them?
Thanks for whatever help you can give. I apologize if this is all old hat.

Hey Bruce, welcome to the forum! I'll try to answer a couple questions for you, some of the more experienced modelers ought to chime in shortly.
There are a few options for replacing handrails, I usually just use those off of a "junk" locomotive of the same model. You could make some yourself, although a kit might work as well.
Traction tires are commonly missing, here is another topic on this forum that covers it: http://www.tycoforums.com/tyco/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=273
I'm not too sure about the specs on the lightbulbs, but just about anything that lights up you could use somehow!
Anyway, I'm sure somebody can give you some better answers. Have fun on the forum though, and remember that pictures are always a plus!
Oh, and comparing missing brakewheels to socks in a dryer is a perfect analogy.

Life-like makes lightbulbs that are almost identical in size, shape and brightness to Tyco's original bulbs. They should fit in the bulb holder in the nose of the engine without any modification. I've replaced the bulbs in several 1960's era streamliners with these.

Hey Bruce I'm about to make available several pieces of rolling stock to the TCF members for just cost of shipping. Since I'm in Canada it only makes sense to buy these as a batch to justify Canada Post's shipping.
I just have to figure out how to use my digital camera first. I should bus Cheez down for a couple of days when school is out and get him to tutor me....
