Heres some pictures I took back in September 2002. I got called to work a work train in the Tallahassee FL area and when I showed up this ols soldier was ready for work! The pics suck because I had to run to the gas n go and grab a disposable camera and it was foggy and drizzling. Before I had left the house to work this train I read on a group that the last Chessie System unit was retired 2 weeks before so this was a REAL nice supprise.

Awesome! Thanks for the pics!
Little did I know, while driving en route to my feshly-adopted home state of KY in July 1999, that the Chessie GP40-2 I caught crossing the viaduct over I-64 in Frankfort would be the last one I'd ever see "live". [:(]
When I rode the Capitol Limited in 2001, it passed another one working MOW service, idle.
A year later in Cumberland, I saw that same unit in the dealine. Bah.
Happily, CSX has a heart and even if they are just gutted drones, 4 cats still prowl the system... supposedly in Ohio yet, though I;ve yet to make the time to find them.
Thanks again for the shots![:D]

I'm not sure if CSX is still using it because it's been 2 years since I've seen it but there was a Chessie engine still riding the rails here in Cincinnati. It's relettered for CSX, CSXT 9122. The first time I saw it was in 2004 in the town of Elmwood between 2 CSX engines, the second I saw going over a bridge between an NS and UP in October 2005. Just last week though, I saw a Chessie caboose, I thought those were long gone.
I'm a letter carrier and the area I work has 3 different lines close to each other, a private owned, an NS line and CSX line, so I hear and see trains all the time. I'm actually surprised how often I see cabeese in use. There's a Conrail caboose that's frequently used on short runners about twice a week.
