You don't see many of the SD24s on the 'bay and a lot seem to be missing their plows or anti-climbers on the pilots. Are they somewhat rare? Is the quality of the SD24 better than other PT powered Tycos. Remember, when answering this, we like Tycos.

Hello Alco Fan, I too find that the sd's seem to be more rare that the other Tyco locos. I have been lucky enough when I have found them, I find them in pairs... As for how they run, other than test them I don't know, as I am still building my latest layout.

I have only one of them in my collection. and yea, the footboards are broke off. I would compair it's running quality as comparable to the C630.

I looked in a 1980 Tyco catalog, that seems to be common one, and the Chessie SD24 was new. It also showed the UP and Burlington SD units. I wonder how many years they offered all three?

I'd like to kitbash one into a low hood unit using a GP20 hood and cab and using the high hood on the GP20.

A GP20 with a high nose would be awfully cool...
