Does anyone know of a source for replacement gears for the 2-8-8-2 & cab Fwd's??

NWSL??

I have found on 2 tear downs that several of the metal 'spiral' cut gears that operate in the horizontal plane [the ones that link the horizontal drive shafts], have flattened spirals, suggesting wear, & they are also noisy.

Thanks

Northwest Shortline would be your best bet and the most knowledgeable. Parts used to be found at Golf Manor Hobbies in Ohio but they've since gone belly up. I don't know who's picked up the Rivarossi parts inventory since.

Thanks
They have some upper gearbox kits listed.
Will follow up with them.
There is an amazing amount of technical information accessible on the site if one has time to wade through it.

Tanked,

I have a set of original gears from a Y6b that I removed when I regeared, if you want the original ratio. BTW, NWSL has two different ratios: one will reduce the speed 33%, and the other about 60%.

Nelson
Thanks for offer, will PM you on that.

Also interested in the NWSL speed reduction ratios - has anyone purchased/installed 1 of their Y6B kits?
Do you get a spur & worm gear & the shafts they sit on & side spacers & the brass colored bearings that fit in the plastic Rivarossi GBox housing, or just gears?

BTW - I found by accident that the Rivarossi's seem to have 11 tooth & 13 tooth spur gears. I have been renovating Y6B's & Cab Fwds & wonder if say the CabFwds run the 13 & the Y6B's the 11 teeth??, or you can get Y6B's with both??
I put a spare set of 13 teeth spur gearboxes in a Y6B ilo 11 tooth & it ran smoother at low speed, I thought.
