Found this gem over the weekend:

Been wanting one to go with my "El Infamouso" 430 [:D], ever since Tony C. discovered this one a while back:

The Mantua box doesn't contrast the loco as beautifully as the Tyco PT box, but I can get any ol' Tyco PT box for display purposes.
But consider this recently-gaveled example:

...Doth that ALSO have the "377A" road number? (looks that way to me)
If so, that's at least three different limited releases of the SAME engine in different boxes, spread over several years - and, notably, always with MU-2 drives.
Really makes the Tyco/Mantua distinction all the more muddled, though!!

Upon further review:
That redboxed version IS different, if only subtly. Look at the cab door - there is no gimballing lug cut into the body. In those days, the trcuk was mounted with two screws threaded into lugs inside the shell. The truck sideframes have a bulge above the leaf springs, to provide clearance to insert a screwdriver.
Now this is actually VERY interesting, concerning Tyco's release of the "Deluxe F7" a few years later. Their promo sheet for that group shows the earlier version:

But what was in the box, was the "Powertorque modified" shell, evidenced by the telltale black square in the cab ladder. Instead of a PT of course, these did use the MU-2 with a revised gimballing system.
I'm inclined to think that the Tyco "Deluxe F7" and the Mantua releases are in fact identical in every way... Tony C. has theorized as much but this pretty well solidifies it...
