Just thought I would ask a (hopefully) simple question. As I was into Tyco trains in the 70s, and still have them, I have an engine that I can't find on the site, and have yet to find on ebay. I was just curious how rare this engine is. (ok, I'm not looking to sell, I'm just curious). Its a pony engine. The box says 206-09 Norfolk & Western. And the box says "Limited Edition". If anyone wants to guess a value for it, thats great - if not, no problem. [:)]

And another engine I have is the double F9 Spirit of 76 set. On ebay I see the other types, but rarely this one. Is that one hard to get too?

Like others here, I am more interested in the value of the memories of the trains from when I was a kid, not what I can get today for them. Thanks for the help, and I enjoy reading what the others have written.

The above picture of the Norfolk and Western Pony 0-4-0 is NOT from a TYCO catalog, but rather a Mantua mid/late-1980s catalog.

Though you did state that your N&W example carries stock number 206-09, right? Mantua used stock number 305 for its Pony 0-4-0 in the above release and the N&W example would be 305-041 here.

Is it in a TYCO box? Or Mantua box?

TYCO only showed the green Southern Railway Pony 0-4-0 the few years the model did make it in catalogs, but there were likely other roadnames offered...your N&W is just such an example.

I'm not certain how odd an N&W Pony may be, not being as into TYCO steam as I am into TYCO diesels. Perhaps someone more familiar with provide some input.

The Twin F-9s in Spirit of '76 are not terribly unusual, though today they aren't usually found still together in an original box in most cases. They were TYCO #248-35 and are listed for $19 in the 1976 catalog...which I believe is there only catalog appearance.

I have been meaning to expand the site's info to include the Twin F-9s and Twin Shark releases. The Twin Spirit of '76 F-9s are mentioned on the Spirit of '76 page...

The Pony looks like a Shifter on steroids. The pennsy A5 look is gone on that puppy. But then it says N&W, not Pennsy.

Thanks for the info. The F9s are still in the original box. I don't know why I got that instead an Alco back then, but its all I ever got of the Spirit of '76 engines.

As for the Pony engine, the picture is almost identical to what I have. It is a Tyco though. I have the original Tyco box. In fact inside I wrote that I bought it Jan 2, 1976 for $19.88. The number on the engine is 217 and the Norfolk & Western is in a differnet text style, though close to your picture.

Again, thanks. If you need a picture for the site of this one, just let me know.

Yes, I would appreciate a picture if it's not a big deal to do. A plain white background would be great...a couple sheets of printer paper can do that work. But any shot would be nice, as it appears I don't have it cataloged on the website. Also snap a pic of the box flap with TYCO's label info, if you would.

You can post 'em here or PM me the info. Also, please provide your name so I may credit you on the site with providing the info and pics.

Much Appreciation...

OK, I've figured out how to post some photos here. Here is one of the box end for this engine.
