I have a Rivarossi HO Cab Forward that I am renovating.
I have found a Front Truck I wanted to use is very 'tight' when turned over by hand.

Almost feels if there is fine grit in the gear system. Lots of friction.
I don't think its the valve rods. I suspect its the vertical gear bearing surfaces.

I have another Front truck that is very free, so I know something is not right with this one.

Please refer to photos below.

How do I get the vertical gear out so that I can clean the bearing surfaces?
Thank you
Tanked

Tanked,

That gearbox assembly should drop right out of the frame once you lift out the geared axle. You may have to rock it back and forth, but it shouldn't be in there very tight. Once removed, the two halves split apart for easy cleaning. I use 90% alcohol, which is fine if the grease isn't too dried out.
