I picked up this MiniTrains set at the show for $15 Saturday.
The locomotive has cracked axle gears but I still think it was a good deal.

Ray,
That's really neat. Is it about Z scale or is that N? Were you at a train show, auction or at an antique mall when you found this? Is it made by an AHM conpany? Looks MIB!

Thanks

Ray:
Nice boxed example, Ray! I'd say that based on the way these critters have taken off in popularity (together with the Eheim cable tram and cable dump systems) $15 was a great deal. I used to (as did many advertising suckers) use these critters in conjunction with the AHM Mine facility; somewhere around I still have a boxed switch or two. Unfortunately, the rest is--as they say--history.
Great find!

Ray,

Have you had any luck trying to replace the axle gears?

Ray,
I had the exact same plymouth switcher with the same axle problem.
Didn't feel like messing with it so I gave it to a friend for his HO layout.
He used it in his coal mine as a static display.
I do have a minitrains? steam loco 0-4-0t that was made in france.

I did find a set of gears from an old tape deck that had the same number of teeth and pitch. I had to fabricate bushings to adapt them to the axles.
