I have a few CD's, an O. Winston Link album, and the Sounds of the Freedom Train album I bought when I saw it in '76.

I have a 45 RPM record of train sounds, it's an Argo Transacord disc from England. It's called "The Sounds of Shunting", and features sounds of small, British steam switchers in the London Midland region, 1956-1957.
It was rarely played, and even has a sticker identifying it's previous owner and address. Best of all, I got it for free at a trainshow!

Thanks, Micro. That cover photo is in a book I have by Don Ball, and it's part of what made me fan. The other part was seeing her at Steamtown.

That's weird that this thread popped up again,as just this week I picked up about 8 steam train records. My favorite is one put out by the Western Maryland Historical Society called Fast Freight Rolling. It's all WM steam recorded in the 50's,in freight service.(no excursions here) It is a 2 LP set with a bonus 45rpm of the WM Shay #6.(cool)

The latest photos I've seen of it running excursions is 1973. I first saw it in '74 in Bellows Falls, VT. It's a candidate for restoration by Steamtown, since the condition is good, but I think there are other locos they want to get to first. I had heard a rumor that it stopped running because someone neglected to completely drain the boiler before winter, and some pretty fatal cracks resulted, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.
Edit -- Here's a better assessment:

little red caboose Little red caboose Riding behind the train
repeat
Get your tickets and get on board We're gonna ride that train
Repeat
Repeat all a million times.
Our eldest daughter's favorite song. I had to sing it for an hour straight once b/c it was just her and I in the car. It's still cute, even after that.
We have other bluegrass and rail road cd's.
One is Steel Rails and "Daddy what's a train"

My uncle does some work with the local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, and they were doing some spring cleaning recently. He found some old LP's and kept them for me, and this was in the bunch:
No, it's not the Love Train of the O'Jays fame, it's a terrible, TERRIBLE mix of electronic and disco music. There are some sound effects throughout of synthesizers imitating trains, but really that's the only connection to trains at all.
I could upload the main song on the album, but you might need a barf bag before listening.
Oh well, at least the album Eliminator by ZZ Top was in there too, so it's not a total loss.

Records? Oh yeah, those round black (usually) groovy disc things. I have a small number of them hanging around. Including one already mentioned here.
This old 1958 Audio Fidelity record has been in the family since the 1970s, and I say it is still a far better quality recording than many more recent ones. I have noticed over the years that this record has been used to provide sound effects on various TV shows and movies. I remember hearing it on Sesame St in the 70s or early 80s. Pretty sure it was used in one of the Back to the Future movies too. Can't say I recall the other shows, but I know the record well enough that I tend to recognise it here and there. Actually the photo is of a second copy I have. Dad has the original.
A couple of records, one also from 1958, the other 1960. Got them cheap a while back and have only listened to them once. I should try them again. The quality wasn't anything special from memory.
Something local (to me). A little EP of recordings (mono I think) of Victorian Railways N class broad gauge (5' 3") 2-8-2 locos at work in their final days.
a 45 rpm recording of South Australian Railways broad gauge Rx class 4-6-0 locos.
Another 45, this time South Australian Railways' narrow gauge (3' 6") T class 4-8-0
more SAR narrow gauge, this time the 400 class 4-8-2 + 2-8-4 Beyer Garratt locos.
Now, here's something different - as are the following two records. This is a 1967 sound effect record of British electric trains for use with film. This is one of a series and is mostly tube trains.
This record was released by Tri-ang to accompany their model trains.
and next is possibly the weirdest of all....
Yes, a railway sound effects record put out by Australian Hoechst Limited, a company that made industrial chemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals. There are four recording on the transparent red record - all of Western Australian steam locos. The cover is in book form, with the record tucked into a sleeve made from the last two pages (there are 5 pages in total, including the front and back cover). There is a tenuous link made between railways and one of their antibiotic products inside.
That's all for now.

That's the one I have... Funny, four record set in a box... all steam on seven sides... UK steam trains... One side with American diesel locomotives, GP & SD 7's.
I also have an album called "Steel Rails Under Thundering Skies." Crossing tower with bells, rain, thunder... and steam trains... even the SP Daylight train with the HONK whistle.
John/Zebrails
Oh, almost forgot the four record set of "Kiddie Toons" with the story "The Engine That Could" and it also included American steam train sounds. Music with train sounds, too.
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

I was going to start a thread like this, but I found that we have one. I noticed the other day as I was organizing some of my new vinyl finds that I have several with a railroad theme. So here are a few, hastily photographed and put up here for all to see. Many of them are thrift store purchases, so the covers aren't in mint condition. I get most of them for 99 cents, so I can't complain too much if the vinyl plays.
John Mayall. It's a retrospective of his early years. Just got it today, haven't spun it yet, but I'm a fan of his work:
Had to get this because of the cover. I wasn't familiar with the artist, but a quick listen and it's exactly what it appears, piano music. Actually sounded pretty good to my ears, so I'll check it out again later. I love the SF boxcars, they were one of the first things I collected in HO.
Two from the man in black. A railroad worker, and what appears to be a railroad robber. Classics.
The next one is, in my mind, kinda cheesy. I don't really care for Boxcar Willie. The songs are rather unimpressive covers, and I've read creepy things about the guy's personal life. Still, for a buck I had to have it.
This next one is not something you see every day. It's a single for Neil Young's "Southern Pacific" on red triangular vinyl. The inside of the cover has a nice streamliner on one flap, and an old car on the other--a reference to the B-side "motor city."
Jimmie Rodgers. Most probably don't even remember him. I'm not sure why I do. Definitely before my time.
Hank Snow:
Not a huge fan of this guy either, but it came in a box of stuff. It's the back cover:
One of my favorites. Every Saturday evening was Hee-Haw night. Grandpa hangin out down at the tracks:
This next one barely makes the list. It has a glimpse of tracks on the cover, and a great song about waiting around Union Station in KC. A new Kansas City local band that I love, The Grisly Hand:
Finally, a picture disc with an interesting story. I picked it up at a garage sale in the early 90's, where someone had made it into a clock. There was a mechanism through the spindle hole, and number stickers around the edge. I used it until the clock quit, then I tried to remove the stickers. That was 7th grade, and I didn't do a good job. I'm going to check it out again and see how it plays, and if I can help it out any.
Despite the pictures, I don't listen primarily to country--they just have the most railroad covers. I listen about equally to country, rock, indie, prog, metal, jazz, fusion, etc., etc. Everything from AC/DC to Zappa. Most people say ABBA to Zappa, but I really don't like ABBA.

It's a 33...with a little warning about automatic turntables. You have to drop the needle by hand, or else you'll have a problem.
I'm actually a little embarrassed that you can see a Rick Wakeman record in the background of one of the pics. I guess the mint copy of Whitesnake next to it makes up for it.

This is my latest contribution of railway related albums/records... BUT, there is not one train sound or song. Okay, it is a famous painting... as an album cover.
Friend of mine was trying to pay me to take it off his hands during his garage sale... okay, this one and 40 other albums. I didn't take the other albums because there were no pic's of trains on them. Got MIL... no... Anyone got phonograph, speakers and needle?

uh, no. He's a friend and I helped him sell all sorts of items. The records were a part of his... musical baggage. I happened to find one album with the train, it's copied from a famous picture by "Turner" titled "Rain, Steam And Speed."
I wanted it purely for the fact that, besides my knowledge of some classical music, it was for: "hey, I know this painting because it's a train." Some lady paid $20 for all the rest of the records. She said she never owned any cd's. She had just bought a phonograph for converting LP's to her computer.
