I have a big old heavy Bachmann 4-8-4 that I was inspecting recently when part of the valve gear support structure 'dropped off'.
Luckily I saw it go.
It is a straight piece of flat rod with a hole at each end & it slides on to 2 'stubs' via those holes.
I don't know the technical term, but there is a 'slider' part that slides on this rail
Pictures below.
I am curious as to how it is normally held in place on the 'stubs' & whether Loctitite will do the job if I can get it back in place.

If the studs are still there Loctitite may hold the bar on.
I had one that did the same thing but the studs sheared completely off.
I drilled holes for new studs and epoxied them in.
Be careful, that Bachmann plastic gets brittle with age and will break easily.

Yeah, those pins that hold the crosshead guide together are flimsy as heck. They just melt the pins over to keep it on, and the melted plastic can easily give way. I've put them back on with Loctite and had no further problems, just be sure to use a tiny drop so that you don't glue the crosshead to the guide.

I see you have a more recent version with blackened wheels. I guess some things never change.

Actually, I have 2 of them Nelson.

Are they rare??
They run well & I figure if I ever have to break a window to exit the house, they are what I am heaving through it. They pack some weight under the shell.
Cheers

No, they're not rare, Tanked, they are the current version of a loco Bachmann has been making since the 70's, when they had pancake motors. They're part of their standard line and have been redesigned, but the crosshead guide didn't get an upgrade as well.

The diecast split frames are heavy. You could also conk an intruder over the head, but for that I recommend Bowser.
