Thanks for the info Ken! I have three of those, but have not had any running issues. But I will file that tid bit away just in case a problem does arise.

Okay, I'm trying to get used to different circuitry components. I see a resistor, a couple of capacitors, but what is that's fried?

Ken, those are RF chokes, and they look fried. They may be working now, but I'm sure at least one of them is open. Not sure what turned 'em into crispy critters, but they look like they got track voltage across them. The wire windings should be copper or red.

MY REASON FOR POSTING THE WARNING,WAS FOR THE REASON NickelPlate759,POINTED TO FRIED RF CHOKES,THIS WAS A BRAND NEW MODEL,DID THE USUAL QUICK CHECKS PUT ON TRACK,RAN AT VERY LOW POWER,GOT THE SMELL,SWITCHED OFF,AND FORGOT IT,WITH INTENTION OF RETURNING TO BACHMANN,THEN YESTERDAY OPENED UP SAW WHAT I SAW,PULLED THEM APART AS THEY WERE STUCK TOGETHER,PLACED ON TRACK,AND IT RAN,BUT IS BEING RETURNED TO BACHMANN,BUT MY POINT IS IT COULD BE A ONE OFF IN MY CASE BUT TO SAVE THE GRIEF AND TIME WORTH CHECKING IN THE FIRST PLACE THAT THERE IS A GAP,KEN
