I've picked up a handful of Marx cars in the past year or so...
- a white Lehigh Portland cement - blue C&O gondola - Western Maryland gondola, molded in black with painted red sides. Beautiful car that I plan to weather and use.
I've also seen the NYC and NH boxcars at the haunt, and the NH may be some sort of "unloading" version, but I haven't picked these up. There are also several plain gray WM gons there, and two NYC bay window cabeese.

I've missed this posting entirely. I love the Marx cars and have a small collection cause no one seemed to care about them when I was buying 20 years ago. Nice examples. They are still made by some one using the same molds. I think Marx cars are heavy and stay on track well.

Here are some more cars to add to Frank's pictures. Was too tired to put info for each. Have now added info. Will be adding more soon, Carl
Marx catalog #6130 hard to find with correct Buldozers
Marx Catalog #6185 Marx 4 car autoloader. Marx only made two cars the Ford Wagon and the Cadillac. Colors were Ford: Black with wood trim and solid white blk roof. Cadillacs were Black, Red, and White.

Marx Catalog #6129 Flatcar with two cars
Marx Catalog #6143 The tanks were glued on at the factory. Hard to find them loose. Model Power sells the tanks separately and with the flatcar in other road names.
Marx Generator Car came in a few variations #128 Flatcar with generator. #128 Flatcar with generator and one flood light. #6181 Flatcar with generator and two floodlights

Marx No # NYC is the only crane Marx made. The work caboose is found in few colors and road names, and was the bases for a few different cars.

Ok, here are my only two Marx HO cars. Nothing special, but I don't recall seeing them above.
If you need the numbers, the caboose is 2226, and the flat is 7210.

POST 20 Hi Scott; Bolth cars are in nice shape. The Eire metal flat and the Santa Fe bay window caboose. I have seen that flat with a large cable reel load. Model power remade these cars with the original reels. The boose came in a lot of sets with ATSF locos. In size it is alot like the Varney Bay window caboose. Your flat load came from a Athearn gondola, but a load is a load when it comes to a railroad moving it. What ever is aviable, and works safely is used. Hey Carl; Do you notice the Marx used anything to make other cars. The Erie flat or the NYC flat shows up under a few different cars. What do you think of the auto carries unloading ramp. frank

Yeah, the flat car load was with the car when I picked it up at a yard sale, though I knew it wasn't original, nor even Marx. I just have left it there as is, and forgot about that when I took the picture.

Hi Frank. Marx was not a company to make too many different Car numbers. Very few items had there own number. Anything on a flatcar or depress center had just about the same number, and came in black or maroon. They did make a lot of different loads. With Model Power having the molds, they have made some interesting cars. When looking for Marx you have to be careful. Some people try to pass off Model Power remakes as Marx Variations. Almost all Marx cars have the Marx Logo some where on the car Mostly on the bottom. The tank cars are hard to see, as the logo is on the frame facing the tank body. The frame has to be removed to see the logo. Marx cars were made in USA and Hong Kong. Model Power is made in China. Have added the car info on my earlier post. Here are a few more cars. Carl

Marx #645 Work caboose with water tank

Marx #7210 Reel Car Blk and marron.

Model Power version of the Cities Service Car. Model Power made other cars based on this type of car

That answers alot. They do have a ton of variations on the basic flat car. This was a undecorated model when I got it (its been seen on here before I just never knew where it came from).

I've been meaning to post the green All State tanker since summer, but now I see VintageHO beat me to it. I got a couple of these in a box of Bachmann junk at an antique store. Great quality, but tricky coupler replacement. Here's my two:

I've also got a Model Power searchlight car. Based on the posts above me, I guess it is based on a Marx mold?

" TYCO Nut. The only way to find them is look for them. Train shows are the best. Flea markets, Antique shops sometimes. E-Bay and other online sites.
" B77 ", What Marx had done with there coupling system was nothing less than cancelling out the problums of operating HO train cars that have talgo truck systems. The bar that surrounds the coupler, limits the side to side motion of the coupler, and truck. Even tho the Marx coupler seams to be a talgo type, it is not. It shows what it takes to straightin out the talgo problum. If you work at it, replaceing Marx couplers gets easier. If you take a tyco talgo coupled car, and install a bent piece of brass or steel rod that limits the motion of the truck to a allowable amount equal to what Marx has done. You will elimate almost all problums associated with running this talgo trucked car in reverse. frank

This one seems to be hard to find according to another Marx collector.

TopTrain you have a neat Marx collection. I have never seen the SF F3 before.

Here is the 40397 Marx Operating Boxcar that Frank Toptrain requested on post 47. This car is very hard to find complete. Usually the the man with hand truck is missing. This post was moved from another post to this one so as to continue the thread. Carl

Hi Frank. Was wondering what the Green 10049 LV Flatcar looked like... I think there is a Black with Orange Lettering version of that same car. I think it came with side rails. Have you seen that one..?? A friend of mine has the Greenberg's guide to Marx Trains. I scanned the section on the Marx HO. There are some items and variations that are not mentioned in the Price Guide list. Carl

Post 51 Carl ; did you ever see the New Haven F3 set that has the Rocker launch car in it. That has to be the hardest to find car that marx made. I have a photo I found on line. I use for referance. It shows the set with the rocket car and another car is missing. The missing car has a strange shape to it. It is the metal flat car with the single light centered on the car. Marx sets had plastic inserts that matched the shape of the car. frank
