...please?

1505 3-dome tank Union Starch - rarity?

#?? 40' piggyback trailers Fruit Growers Express, Sea-Land - rarity? OOP?

#?? Strealmine Obs, Burlington, Grey with red sides and white window band - is this one a Cox car? It kind of matches the oddball mid-60s red and grey F7, but the Greenberg book makes no mention of this scheme. Is pretty clearly factory decorated.

Thanks -

Not sure if this info will be of any help to you. I have the "Standard Guide to Athearn Model Trains" by Blaisdell and Urmston, 1998.

#1505- Announced 3/63. OOP and listed as "OP3". Meaning "OOP, rare, not likely to be found".Car #7744 and red.

Afraid I could not find any listing for 40' piggybacks with "Fruit Growers Express" or "Sea-Land". I found several others listed, just not the ones you need.

My book does list several of the stream lined obs as you described:

72' streamlined obs car.
stock#0833 car number 3246, announced 1/68, OOP, listed as "OP4" which means OOP, "extremely scarce". Stock# 1833, 2833, and 3833 appear to be identical. Each is listed as car #3246 and announced 1/68. Not sure why they would have the same car listed with 4 stock numbers. Also, the same stock# and car number is used for the silver Burlington car as well. This car is NOT listed as being sold by Cox, though an SP in "Daylight" is.

Thanks, thats the book I was referring to, put out by Krause publications I believe. I have one, but it's dissapeared to points unknown. I figure eventually I'll buy another copy and then the one I have now will turn up.

I have lots of goofy things not in either book, like a perfectly normal B&O GP35 shell - except the lettering and stripe are all in white instead of yellow - and a 40' flat with piggy back trailer in Union Pacific colors. But the FGE and Sea-Land trailers not being listed in that book surprises me. Maybe they only came as a single, with a Kenworth tractor?

As for why the 4 stock numbers for one car - Per Greenbergs:

0833 - kit, lighted
1833 - kit, unlighted
2833 - RTR, lighted
3833 - RTR, unlighted

Most roadnames on the original 4 streamline cars follow that pattern, although eventually I think all but the 1800-series were dropped.

I'm somewhat surprised to see RTR Athearn as late as 1968, though.

In looking back through the Greenbergs they're calling this an "original scheme" and do mention it on the RPO, Coach and Vista Dome cars. They say it can be found on the original multi-piece body cars also, but that doesn't seem to make sense if it was announced in 1968. Have to wonder what the story behind this one is, I don't think any real train ever looked anything like it. But that was why I guessed it might be Cox issue.

While the Greenberg book doesn't give you a rarity guide, I've noticed the stuff they give a higher dollar value to seems to be the most rare.

Thanks -
