Hello,

as you know much of the AHM stuff of the 60's and 70's was produced in Austria. Usually, collectors believe that the maker of these model is Roco. This is only partly true. But there was a second manufacturer in Austria involved in producing for AHM, Liliput in Vienna. Many of the models of those two makes share the same prototypes.

Here are tow reefers from my collection. The first one is from Liliput, the second Roco.

Liliput models had no seperately attached ladders on the sides and on the front of the cars. The casting of the Bettendorf trucks is a little bit less detailed than Roco and it's usually dark gray plastic (Roco: black). Finally, the couplers have little round wire springs (Liliput), Roco used a cast on plastic spring.

Besides this reefer Liliput made a PS1 box car, a covered hopper and the famous track cleaning car. Also the golden box melon car and the stock car are made by Liliput as well as Con Cor streamliners.

Interesting points, Martin. I've been wondering how to distinguish the two manufacturers since someone posted info about Liliput, so this helps a lot.

Hello,

there's another way to tell. Roco cars usually have the Roco-logo stamped on the frame and "Made in Austria". On Liliput cars the stamp says "Made in Austria L AHM (logo)".

The AHM cars I've seen just say "Made In Austria," and nothing else, like the Flexi-flow hopper.
