I thought I'd post this heads-up that there's a guy on eBay who makes replacement hex shafts for the old AHM/Riv 2-4-0's and 4-4-0's with a transparent shaft. The originals are hard to locate, and this improves the appearance. I haven't tried them myself, but he does have 100% feedback.

I actually lost one of those on Christmas day in 1968 !!!
it fell into the abyss somewhere between the living room and the kitchen
when I went to show my Grandfather my new V&T Genoa engine.

I did not even know I lost it till I went to put it back on the track
and it just whirred and did not move.

God was my Mom pi$$ed ...I can still hear yelling that I should not
handle it so much...."its too delicate" she would preach.

We took it back to Two Guys the next day...The place was a
MADHOUSE !!! just adding to my mothers aggravation !

The clerk at the train counter did not even want to hear what the problem was ....he just threw the blue and yellow box in a shopping cart that was already puking out with train returns and went to the shelf and handed us a brand new one.

As a side note they where selling Big Boys that day for 17.99 and
Lionel 6464 boxcars for a buck each.

I still got the engine ...well my Mom does it sits on here mantel
on a display board. I gave it to her after I got into O gauge about
24 years ago because she always liked it.

I'm sure that happened to lost of kids. The shaft on my original Bowker got stripped because I used to spin the motor with the sockets barely engaged. Doh!

I remember Two Guys after Christmas, and those $20 Big Boys (it was the early seventies for me). How much would you give to have that returns shopping cart now?

Hello again,
Hate to have woke this thread from the dead for nothing but, I found the drive shaft.

I bought this train set yesterday. The drive shaft was in one of the freight car boxes.

Lucky me.
Thanks again,
Henry t
