Bought this mint in box kit off ebay. This is the exact same kit as Tyco's Rolling Bridge kit. The AHM is easier to obtain than Tyco. Only difference is box they come as they are both made in W. Germany

Hey Brian:
Powered or unpowered? How does it compare to the Bachmann "Bascule"?

G--this one is unpowered. I have seen the motors listed at times and will try to pick one up to motor it or rig a motor to power it. Compared to Bachmanns--My opinion--these are more realistic than Bachmanns. Bachmanns is the Bascule Bridge which Tyco or Ahm never made or offered. The Rolling Bridge and Bascule Bridge are very diiferent in design. I have never owned a Bachmann Bascule Bridge. Seen a few of Bachmanns Bascule's go for over $50.00 in last few months though.

For those interested, the prototype for the rolling bridge still exists at Wingo, California near Sonoma:

The November 1967 Model Railroader had a nice article about it:

Yes, Brian. I knew it was plus I noticed you mentioned that in your original post. I don't know if I will ever buy one cus I'm not sure where I would use it... I love the kit and watch it close on ebay when they are on...

Course you want it Ben.
It used to be said in ancient Hindu cosmologies (among others) that the flat earth rested on the backs of three gigantic elephants who stood on the back of an even larger tutrle, swimming through the cosmic sea.
Those ancient men could have saved so much parchment if they had only to know that what holds the world up is Ben saying : "I wants..."!

Here are some pics. I got the rolling bridge when I was a kid. Still can't get enough of it, even though it is in poor shape. Some day I will fix it up and make a diorama with it.

The Bachmann bascule will be incorporated into a switching area on my layout. It is motorized, but it is missing the bridge tender building.

This last one is still in the original packing. It's an AHM Pikes Crossing Swing Bridge. Apparently it will cut the power to the track when the bridge is closed. It looks a bit strange to me. Anyone know if there was actually a prototype for it, or is this just a fantasy piece?
