Hiya guys, newbie to the forum, but not to trains. Been lurking all evening reading and enjoying the forum, decided to join as I could use some help with a 630 my wife has. Its been nicely detailed and weathered, but the old PT motor is tired. Would anybody be willing to do one of the CD motor repowers on it? I dont have the means to machine out the truck to accept the replacement motor. She would love to run this engine at the local club, but its not able to right now. Hope to make some new freinds here. Cheers MIke
Still NT's, I have Aspergers.

Hi Mike,
I can't help you with the repower, But I would like to welcome you aboard. I think you will like it here. There are a lot of great folks here that should be able to help you out.

Hi cadetpwr -- Welcome to the forum where model railroading is fun here and the members are the friendliest you will find. On your -repower for the 630-this is an sorta of expensive-you can use a Stewart chassis and drop the shell on to it. I did this with an Golden Eagle 630. You would have digital command option and you get constant bright headlights forward and reverse. The other option is to find a running Tyco loco whether it be a 430-f unit-Gp20- as the motors are all the same and use for your 630. All you would have to do is use your trucks off the 630 and one wheel for the above mentioned and you are running

Welcome, If you repower a 630 you'll need a thin Personal CD player motor. The ones from the computers are thicker and will interfere with the middle axle on the power truck. Also the cd motors can't handle the voltage and will need a resistor on both leads to keep from burnin' em up. Brianstyco has good advice!

I'd go Brian's way, it will make for a much nicer loco. I'm doing a similar change on a Tyco GP20 with an Athearn GP35 mech...

Welcome to the forums, Mike. I've only been here a few months myself, and I'm loving this place.
Look forward to hearing what you have to say...
As for the repower, Brianstyco and shaygetz probably have a great idea there. Athearn drivetrain with a Tyco shell. Sounds kinda weird but I bet it's a great runner.
