I recently realized that a good quantity of my trains that hadn't seen rail-time since I was in elementary school were Tyco, and this forum and Tony Cook's reference site have been loads of help in identifying and finding out more about them, and getting some of the engines running again. Now I'm hooked on Tyco because 1) as an architecture student I don't have much time to do layout work (or space to put one) and collecting is just as much fun, 2) after I buy architectural model supplies I can buy tyco with the money that's left, and 3) I love taking something that isn't that detailed and turning it into a really nice model. Even my Spectrum 2-8-0 didn't escape from a custom Rio Grande paint job and some extra parts.
And, of course, there's just something fun about having that same Spectrum 2-8-0 haul around a Jell-O boxcar.
