When was the Tyco Union 76 gas station introduced? This one came as a lighted built up for a few years, but is fairly hard to find. Heard a rumor it might be the kit Revell introduced, but it looks nothing like Revell's mockup and I think it's a lot newer. Was it a new tool for Tyco?

lvrr-- The Tyco Lighted 76 gas station was introduced in 1972 and last cataloged in 1981. It is hard to find but there have been several listed on ebay in the last few weeks. If you are looking for one to purchase--be prepared to spend at a minimum of $50.00 or higher. I do not know if it was a Revell kit assembled and sold under Tyco. "New tool for Tyco"--don't know.

I bought one at a train show a few years ago for $5 in nice shape. Sounds like I should stock up on a few more...
Someone else tells me this might be a reissue of an Aurora kit from the late 50s - this makes more sense, since Tyco did reissue a few of their buildings (the "Aurtown School" became the Tyco lighted factory) but I haven't compared the construction details with any of the Aurora structures I have.
It also makes sense in that that big thick base with the gas station would bring it up to the level of slot car track, which is what the Aurora kits were marketed to go with.

| I recently received a boxed Tyco gas station as part of a So76 J.C. Penny set, circa 1976. I had thought about selling, as the station doesn't really work on my layout (it's bigger than my Plasticville motel!). I've hesitated, because I don't know what a fair price would be.

They are`nt too hard to find. I see them all the time on the bay and at shows. like Brian mention though they are really HTF complete. they have to be almost untouched to be complete because a few of the peices are very britle. I MAY have one in a loose buildings box I have and will check.

I just wanted to ask about variations of this item. The picture of yours shows 2 separate gas pumps both w/ 76 signs, as does the one on your website, but every brown box i see, the picture on the front of the box, only has one??
Here is a picture of the box:
TycoKit Exxon
Is the picture on the box wrong, or did you happen to find another pump and put it with your set?
Appreciated

i guess nobody has an answer as to why the picture on Tony's website, and also Adams picture above has 2 separate gas pumps and signs and why the box only shows one?

NICE!!!!
I'd love to build one of those for my US-1 trucks! I already have a small gas station with awning that would go nicely with a 76 station. That would be my "if I had a dream speech"...

| I've seen a few service stations in my time, and I think all I've seen have two pumps. May just be one of Tycos inconsitsencies (wouldn't be the first!) with the box artwork.

| Looking at an old box just now, it does show two pumps, but one situated on the side of the station. Seems like at least some were installed on the front.
