I am in the process of building a new layout and unpacked some of my TycoKit buildings.

Very Nice! I have to get started on my Center Street buildings too. Been working on the Stockyard #7781 for a while now, it's taken four coats of white paint on the fence alone (next time I paint a fence it will be spray paint).
Your buildings look very nice and clean (GOOD JOB) remember building it is half the fun!

Would like to see a pic of your Pickle Factory.
Does it come with the Heinz sticker or is it custom?

On our piano, I have layed out "Center Street". Picture was taken in late 2001. I believe I painted the walls to all of these buildings except the Loew's Theater. I added alot of paint detail to all of them. The Sam's Car Sales is hard to detail much...

A few of my Tyco kits shown ; Burger King, Pizza Hut, Baskin Robbins, HoJo's... I believe the Burger King kit is the hardest kit to make look good. Some creativity is needed for detailing the BK. Note the rare 1970 McDonalds kit and the Freezee Ice Cream store by Life-Like. All purchased new in sealed boxes. For a btter look, click & save the pic ,and enlarge it..

Here is two of my Tyco Kits. The Drug Store is a neat kit. I paint detailed the kit like it is shown on the box. This has some neat interior detail too. Has a diner towards the front and details thruout. I also added the mortar between the block/stones. Some Camera Shop detail on the right side.
The Furniture Store has been painted outside as a weatered brick look. The furniture inside is color detailed too. The brown on the sidewalk is painted rust, as the old vents were in those days.
Both kits have a bunch of sidewalk detail items in the kit like dogs, meters, fire hydrants. I have not used any of these items , waitting until the layout is started to choose what needs to be where.

Here is my tyco Kit Pizza Hut. A very simple kit with just a few pieces. I painted the roof and added detail around the windows and front of buiding. This is another kit that is drab, without adding some paint detail. Probably find more detail to do to it when layout begins...

| Right again Microbus, Sam's Car Sales does have the 3 old cars that come with it. I kept mine, but they are just way too old of cars to have on a car sales lot, unless someone was displaying a 1930-40s layout...I wonder why Tyco put that old of cars in a 1980+ building kit.

The Sam's Car lot is a cool kit. I am wodering how to further detail it. There is just not much there to detail I have blacktopped the lot so far. Needs some more to stand out...

Ribbons, balloons, cheesy signs, and some slick looking salespersons. I also think the building could use an addition, maybe with a showroom...

Walt- perhaps weathering the bricks with some white chalk around the mortar would work. You are right- that kit doesn't have much to detail... but perhaps detailing the bricks would overcome that.

Yes Johnnykane, the mortar idea is a good one. Few days ago I removed the building from its base and removed the roof. I use thin white/gray paint as mortar and started that process on my Sam's building. The building has small brick so it's kind of hard to make the mortar no look "overkill" on the kit. I have a couple of photos on this thread and you can see what mortar on the Drug Store pictured above can do. Tyco' kits are neat but alot of paint/other detail is a must to make them really good. It's like the Tyco Burger King, it's a neat kit but is horribly drab if built as it is out of the box. Same goes for many other tyco kits...

Just days ago, I passed thru Lancaster, Ohio and noticed that the Pizza Hut in that town is exactly like the kit Tyco offered. This older style building is painted in lighter colors on the front wooden areas with the normal red roof. It was neat to see that atleast one of this style building still exists, and is in service...

Great references for of the Tyco building kits everybody. Next time I get to a show I'll look for some of these. I've been looking on the 'bay for a Ho Jo's kit because my wife worked her way through college there. When I do see one I am hesitant to pull the trigger but shouldn't be,"buy it now". I have seen an original Ho Jo's kit marked close to $50 at a hobby shop. I like the street scene set up on the piano, and all the others too. Occasionally I'll set up some engines that are new purchases on the mantle so I can enjoy them. My wife is very supportive about my hobby.

Accully The Pizza Hut Pictured above is not the Lancaster, Ohio PH unless there is more than one in that city.. The Pizza Hut on highway 22 in Lancaster has the angled work around the windows on sides & front, just like the tyco model kit.
