After breaking down my old basement layout 9 months ago, I am finally making something to run my trains on again. This will be just a point ot point layout. Anolog. It will be up in my attic. The size of it will be 16' x 2'. Just a shelf layout. Their will be 5 16' long runs. The three in the front are the three mainlines. Two in the back are for switching.

Carl : Thank you for the comments. You can see this is not the most conveint of spaces to locate a layout. My last layout was large and was their for a long time. I kept changing it as is normal. Just it was in a basement for a 5' 10" person. I'm 6' 2" So I would find myself on the floor at times waking up or just bleading. Now in the attic all I have to worry about is the angle of the ceiling. Walking into that just rubs your head. I'm sure going back and forth will get old fast. These two 2' x 8' sections just sit atop 3 shelving suports and a old 3 draw desk. The sections will be removable and I hope added to another layout somewhere. frank

| nice toptrain--Hope you have AC and heat. AC especially for summer heat. I would like to use my attic--but it is too hot in the summer and i do not have the funds to make it comfortable at this time.

I started on road bed for right side of layout. No work on boards is being done in their running place. To work on board I am removing and relocating them to a work area in the center of the floor. When done I replace board to it's runing location. The track sections on both boards will be connected together using standard Atlas 9" sections.

Here you can see the expensive bench work. The board sits on shelving, suported by 1"x6"x8' boards.

Here you see that the board is also stiffined by two other 1"x6"x8' boards fastened to board edges. So a total of six 1"x6"x8' are used on this 16' shelf layout. It remains to see how well all this will work out. This layout is made to easly take apart and move.

At the days end the board is back in place. The floor is vacumed. And most important is my Wife is not pissed off.

Toptrain...Looking good, don't feel bad about any way that you construct it, my layout is still on 6 of those black A frame carpenter helpers and will be until I am ready to put into actual place... this way I can get to all sides for now...will be that way for years proably..on yours it would be neat if you could make a L shape at one end and have a return loop..just a thought...garret "the fanged one"

Adam : Hi ! As to my home I'm from Bayonne NJ. I just like Porter. And if you notice their are two Pennsy Porter cases their. The other is Stegmire. It is from Wilks Bare Pa. The Yengling is more like a Stout in taste. The Stegmore is creamer. My son lives in Saylorsburg Pa. north of Wind Gap. When I run open hoppers, 34', to 50' I use a stablelizing load. It keeps the cars from swaying and derailing when empty. The load is shown in these photo. frank

Hmm at first I thought the lines were crooked, but it's just the pictures being down-sized.

Matt : Your first observation my be correct. I wear glasses and I didn't have them on when I put down the tape. I don't wear my glasses often. Only to read. Besides, After a few beers the stright lines look crooked, and the crooked lines look stright. So when I see crooked lines, I have a beer. The crooked line goes away! frank

If you click on the picture, the lines straighten up as the picture is brought to it's original size.
But hey, have a cold one if you wanna...

Spencer has been leased to the CNJ to temporarly replace the CNJ pacific #810 that is in for a major refitting. He is doing a admirable job keeping to a demanding schedule. All Thomas fans should be proud of him ! frank
