Well I finally finished a project that I mentioned to Brianstyco oh, about 6 weeks ago.
Some of you may have seen the nifty HO scale diecast vans at Walmart. These are basically in the same design as the new HighSpeed / ModelPower / Malibu cars... but these appear to be Malibu (WalMart) exclusives. They go under the name "Street Whipz" and there are two castings available in 1/87, 1/64 and 1/24 scales. In HO we get a 1974 Ford Econoline and a 1975 Dodge D-100 (a 1976 Chevy is availble in the larger scales; the Ford is not in 1/64, and the Dodge is not in 1/24)... replete with gaudy "death metal" paint schemes like this:

Yeah... not too many uses for those on a layout. But at $2.00 a pop?!? Sure beats $10+ on plastic Trident Chevy vans - which is all we've had till now!
So I bought a whole case of 'em, pondered a few ideas, and BEHOLD:

You'll notice that, aside from the more-believebale service livery, that these things look REALLY DANG GOOD when you use the details given, like turn signals, wipers, windshield moldings, door handles, etc etc.

The names, designs, logos and liveries are all-original concept work by me... excepting the obvious reference I pulled in for "Mario Brothers Plumbing" (as many born during the brown-box era may appreciate)...
I'll be selling these on ebay soon, but I haven't settled on a price yet. Might start at $6.50 each and see where they go...

Tony L.,
They look great! You said you were gonna offer them on eBay, I hope you'll provide the TYCO Forum folks with an exclusive offer too. I know I've bought them at Wal-Mart, but haven't done anything with mine...now that I see these...I I'd like a pair of your custom vans for myself.
Did you make decals for them? The detailing paint work really makes them look great.
Nice Work!

Very NICE! Thanks for giving the source.
I think I will do up a "Good Times Van" and put it in front of one of the houses in my HO neighborhood, complete with an HO hippy driver, HO teenage daughter, and a disgruntled HO father in a rocking chair "cleaning" an HO shotgun.

Thanks guys.
I DO plan to offer a few here at forum-only prices... but considering the time I invested in them, and that I only have those 18 done, I'd like to see where the bay gavels them out first. I've spent a lot of money on myself this past month and I haven't even started Christmas shopping yet...
I do have a handful more "stock" that I haven't modified yet, so perhaps I will take orders. I think I'll troll the local WallyWorlds and see what else I can scrounge up and go from there. I'm not sure if I'll do many more of the Dodges though, as the Conversion-style picture window on the right side makes for some additional work.
By all means, I appreciate any interest you guys might have. If you want some, PM me which ones you like best and I'll see what I can do. [:)]

Tony - I designed and made the decals. I've been doing that for about two years now as needed. I'm fortunate to have a friend who gave me an ALPS printer on "infinite loan" as long as I could print him what he needs, since he didn't have time to do it for himself. Nice deal [}:)] (just try finding an ALPS today, it's the only way to print white). As you know, the vans only come in red, black, and brown... so I stripped and repainted them as necessary.

| Wow!!!! GIC-great job on the vans. I really like the silver dodge vans. They all look so much better than what they originally were painted.

John - Well, I did buy a can of Competition Orange paint for the next batch ;)f
Would you believe one of these sold at my "sky pie" buy it now prcie, BEFORE I was finished listing them all?!
Unfortunately, I think I was lucky in that someone saw them while they were at the top of the newest HO scale>Other Manufacturers listings. I can't belive there's not a category for Vehicles, specifically. I might get bit by lousy (but necessary) keywords. Bah.
