NORMAN S. TYLER age 77, of Greenville DE, passed away peacefully on Sept. 2, 2006 surrounded by his family. Born in

Mantua N.J. and raised in Woodbury Heights N.J., he graduated from Woodbury High School and attended the University of

Pennsylvania and the Wharton School. He joined his father to run the family business, Mantua Metal Products Co., later known

as Tyco Industries, manufacturers of electric model trains and road racing. He served as president of the company.

SOURCE: Obit published on September 8, 2006, Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia, PA

Mr. Tyler lived at 322 Centennial Road, Greenville (a suburb north of Wilmington). I had tracked him down last spring. Thought

I might be able to chat with him about his families business. I backed off when I found he was ill.

and so it goes...

Wow, that's sad. And you know, he seems pretty young for as long as Tyco was actually around. I wonder what his true thoughts about the rise and fall of Tyco were... if he was unwitting accomplice, willing sellout, or just doin' whatever he could, or versions of all three as the situation calls for.

At any rate, it's a shame he lilkely never found this forum and the small (but growing) group of fans who would readily thank him for his company's contributions over the years!

At least the Mantua name lives. And here all this time, I thought it was a family surname, not the name of a town.
