Hot dang. What a great day at the local good ole boy model train show and swap meet.

Find 1) An AHM NH C Liner dummy B unit for the NH C Liner powered A unit I got off ebay. Excellent condition - No box -$5.00. Magnolia promised I would stumble on one. He didn't lie. I wasn't expecting it this soon for so cheap. This dealer also had a handful of MIB 60's/70's AHM freight cars for $2.50 each. Walked away $15.00 poorer. Not bad.

Find 2) Tyco grab bag: Rock Island shark in pieces. Includes two power pork motors without truck sides and one is missing gear. Great parts engine I think. Also includes A Champion Spark plug 50 foot boxcar shell plus a 1967 issue of Kalmbach's introduction to Scale Model Railroading - Lynn Westcott. I coveted this book when I was a kid. Cost of grab bag: $2.00

Find 3) A beautiful AHM looking Jupiter. Mint in styrofoam liner but no outside box. Runs fine. $20.00. I really thought it was AHM until I get home and see it's Bachman. Still it's really cool and still worth $20.00 to me......... But wait! I hit the jackpot! The stamp dealer has one on ebay and it is "very rare" starting bid $150!! Book value $278!! LMFAO!!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-BACHMANN-TOY-TRAIN-STEAM-LOCOMOTIVE-Jupiter_W0QQitemZ180044166165QQihZ008QQcategoryZ19132QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item180044166165
I've spent considerable time studying the photos and mine is identical. Where can I find this Bachman price guide anyway? Do I dare email this auction to the fellow who sold me the Jupiter today?

catford, I realize that as there are around six on ebay with starting bids of $5.00 or something. One is ending soon at $12.00 with 5 bidders. The $150.00 one is a joke some dude is playing.

Hey jlong,

Speaking of "the stamp collector"...I saw this on eBay today and it's only going for $8.99 right now...I've already put a For Sale sign out in the front yard and on my car and hope to raise enough cash to snipe this baby for myself....

eBay Item#180043335784

You'll notice the missing handrails and collection of dust...so it is in league with the primo condition of that one clown's old Athearn Santa Fe SD-45!

VintageHO,

You asked, "what book?"

Forget his library of literature, I would ask this joker, "What color is the sky in your world?" LOL!!

Tony, believe it or not I had my eyes peeled for an Athearn ATSF SD-45 as the blue scheme with silver trucks is rather handsome.

These bozos who post gag auctions may come in handy with a spouse who questions our finds. "See honey, look what it sells for on ebay". But then we must be careful she doesn't put our finds on ebay.

How common are Mantua/Tyco F-9B units in New Haven paint scheme, and an unused undecorated GP20 shell?

Wow Ray you did make some great buys. Lots of great projects for the winter. No way in hell would you find deals like that here except maybe our big semi-annual Green Bay shows.

Tony, The GP20 shell is black.
It has the 2 studs for mounting the weight and fuel tank halves, the headhight bracket mounts to a plastic stud (not screwed on), the rear mounting slots are the narrow ones and the rear lights are not drilled out.

Ray,

Was just curious as I recall my Dad collecting various undec shells in the early/mid '70s for projects. The TYCO shells he would get (GP-20s and C430s) always were of a blue color and usually included yellow horns. They always seemed to stand out in the box of odd shells and shell pieces he kept for kitbashing, as most other makers always seemed to supply black or gray/white shells.

I guess I'm dense as one Shark truck is motorless. Explains the missing gear. Duh........... But, hot dang, after a little cleaning and oiling the motored truck works fine. Now if I can find another junker for truck sides and mounting brackets.

I have a set of side frames. 3 are the same and 1 is a slightly different color. Which brackets do you need?

Ray, I'm looking for the brackets that attach to the truck frames. The ones that attach to the brackets inside the body. Hope I know what I'm talking about as I'm guessing how this goes together. Thanks.

Here's a photo of a truck mounting bracket on a truck for my GG1.
I've seen them come apart with one half on the truck and the other in the shell. I find it easiest to install the bracket on the truck and then insert it into the shell.
I don't have any extra brackets, If you want the sideframes give me your address by PM and I'll send them out.
