While doing the research on the new Chattanooga page, I noticed something about the Virginian C430 models...
Here's the original model shown in the 1979 and 1980 catalogs...
Here's 1982-92's picture used in the Diesel Locomotives section, it carries the cab number 1435...though the numberboards are the typical 4301...
Then here is what may only be a catalog mock-up/prototype. It seems to favor the second version paint, but notice the clean nose? No yellow chevrons and no VGN herald..
And then basically the same paint with some attention given the nose with the yellow chevrons and VGN herald..

Okay, there is also I think the Yugoslovian Century 430 substitute model packed in sets in the 1990s dressed for Virginian.

I have ZERO examples of the Virginian Century 430 in my collection.
Anybody else able to confirm or deny the existence of all these variations for the Virginian C430???

I love them all but like the first one best with the thin bue stripe. The VGN C430, Warbonnet Super 630, and CBQ SD-24 are my favorite brown box engines. I have zero but hope to get one of the above soon.

I have the last two in my collection. I have a total of 6 vriginians 3 new in box and 3 no box-all in super running condition. The only difference in the last two is the color is darker on the blue and no difference on the yellow on the ones i have. Would like to have the 1435 number-even if it was just a shell.

Brianstyco,
You say you have the last two, so you do have one with the 4301 cab number and no stripes or herald on its nose? I had wondered if the "clean nose" example was possibly not produced, but you say you do have one?

TC, I'd say that there is at least one 1435 VGN somewhere unless it was destroyed as car companies do with show cars, although I don't think train mock-ups could be a liabillity. I have 2 VGN C4301s with the nose stripe and the narrow yellow stripe on the sides. This is encouraging to collectors that something rare could turn up like the 1435 VGN, a C4301 in PRR , the 430 from down under, or 430s PCs cross numbered as 5628. Somewhere there's a warehouse with undiscovered ...
Has anyone explained the C4301s with the PT and the Mantua tank?
The web site was and is looking great Tony , Thanks!
