Mine would be the 4-6-0 steamer done for Budweiser Beer. I only have the locomotive.

Nice loco! I have the Budweiser old-time reefer, but that's it. For photos, what I do is just open up "Paint" find the folder with the pic and open it, then use the "Resize, Rescew" tab to shave down the photo. I usually go for about 30%.

sorry.
Put a search for "Lil Six" and you will find my favourite locomotive... Mantua locomotive, that is. I thought I would save space.

btw, nice loco's people.
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

My favorite Tyco engine would have to be the Amtrak F-7. I received one of these as a kid in the 70's and ran the wheels off it.

I have close to 100 locomotives now (said for perspective and not to brag), and while there's plenty of contention within the top 10 or 5, nothing comes close to #1:

I just honestly never ever get tired of gazing at it.

I'm happy today! Just came in--an entire So76 set, unused, only thing missing is outer box. Among the goodies are log dump, derrick car, freight station, AND lighted service station! Best of all, an unused (with handrails in package) So76 630, with perfect decals.

I've posted this before. This is my first Tyco Mantua. It runs great and is in great condition other than missing the little uncoupler pin on the bottom of the front coupler and it's sans traction tires

Frank,
That 50's pacific is quite a find. The smooth boiler is an interesting look. Do those older large motors run better than the PM-1's?

Nelson : The New Haven Pacific isn't from the 50's or 60's. It is a latter one. Those were all metal with a tower gear arrangement. This is a TYCO-Mantua with a plastic tender body, cab, and pilot. It has a standard PM-1 motor. frank

This is a old Cast and Brass 1940's and 1950's locomotive. Here was the first use of the valve gear that would be used to this day for the pacific locomotive. It also was the original tower gear with a inclosed worm gear making constant contact with center drive axle gear. A large 5 pole pittman motor with felt disk oilers is used. The motor so large I've never seen one burned out. The body was all brass with brass and cast detail. The tender the all die cast version that would continue on with the Pacific and Mikado into the early 60's. The trailing truck was a boster trailing truck used only on the model. frank

My favorite Tyco/Mantua is my all metal Pacific from the 1950's. In fact, it's one of my favorite model trains that I have in general.

First locomotive I ever got was the 1976 Rock Island Alco 430 road number 4301 with metal rails. There's a plastic rail version and most don't have the rails at all. It's a beaut - my very favorite.

I narrowed mine down to two, my C430 PRR or the Queensland Rail C430.

If I absolutely had to narrow it to one, it would have to the PRR. It was by the grace of God that I seen it and won it on eBay.

I did a poll on steamers back in January - interesting results. Pacific and Shifter won by a long shot. The Shifter is my favorite since it was my first engine. I also remember seeing it in the first books I bought like "Small Model Railroads" (Pine Tree Central) and "HO Railroad That Grows"to name just 2. I own one from the 50's, and 2 from the 60's (one with smoke). I also own a Pacific, Mikado, and Little Six from the 50's but the Shifter willl always be my favorite. Sorry, but no interest in Tyco/Mantua diesels, except for a 50's Sharknose.

This is an agonizing question for me - there are so many DIFFERENT Tyco engines that I am fond of, how to chose???? I like the classic electric GG-1, the big E8, the SD-20's are great, and the F9 carbody is just a classic. But if I had to make a decision, it would be the small shunter diesels, I just happen to love those little diesels that are made for small industrial use. Not sure why, but they just tickle my fancy to no end.

Here are two of the more sought-after versions, I got them at the TImonium MD show a few years ago, $25 each, far below Ebay prices. I have the Republic Steel, UP, and a few other roadnames as well. I'd like to get all the versions eventually.

My Chattanooga Choo Choo consol from my first Tyco set in 1975. Not just any Chattanooga Choo Choo consol, that one. I traded it away to a friend way back when, regretted it, and managed to get it back shortly after. It's in sad shape, but I don't care.

Bachmann later made this engine in plastic. Your Mantua will probably be running strong years after the last Bachmann has split its gears.

Because of the shared tooling it's probably possible to convert this to a conventional drive using parts from a Mantua 0-8-0. The shell and frame are the same. Then use the frame from a Tyco crane under the tender shell.
