Hey Guys:
Haven't lead off the section in a while but I aquired a real beauty recently. My favouirte road since a boy was the Delaware & Hudson. Of all Alco's the RS3 is one of my favourites.
When I saw this on Ebay I couldn't afford it, but when it didn't sell I arranged a trade with the seller. Took a lot of rust just mailing each other locomotives but sometimes ya gotta...
Anyway the pics:

CUSTOM PAINTED D&H ALCO RS-3 LOCOMOTIVE (ex B&M RS3)
Although the Delaware & Hudson still had dozens of ALCO RS3's operating in their fleet well into the 1970s, the railroad acquired two more RS-3's from the Boston & Maine in 1974. These two units, #1508 and #1536 - were purchased to provide additional steam heater equipped locomotives needed to continue passenger service along the D&H while the more famous ALCO PA's were sent to Morrison-Knudsen for rebuilding.
The 1508 immediately received an updated version of the famous lightning stripe paint scheme - featuring silver trucks, silver pilots, and a silver fuel tank. This locomotive had several characteristics which made this unit unique from the D&H's fleet of earlier RS3 ALCO Locomotives. It featured large angled number boards in front and back, a steam generator, and an extra battery box in the front of the cab. Door panels and door louvers on the sides of the long hood also had a much different configuration. The dual sealed beam headlights found on this loco was another feature which the originally purchased D&H RS3 units did not have. The 1508 served the Delaware and Hudson well - hauling passenger trains well after the return of the PAs. It was permanently assigned to freight service after the formation of AmTrak forced the discontinuation of all D&H passenger service. In the late 70's, the 1508 was renumbered to 4075 (a second usage for this roadnumber) and it even kept it's all silver trucks when it received it's all blue paint scheme in 1977!
This is a beautiful HO Scale model locomotive - which can serve your railroad in either passenger service, freight service - or both. It started out as an Undecorated Atlas/Kato RS3 (Original Kit #7070). Many modifications have been made to the RS3 body to better represent the 1508 as it would have looked in 1974 right after being repainted to D&H. Some of the details added are: a utility box added to the walkway forward of the cab on the engineer's side an extra battery box added forward the cab on the fireman/brakemen side a 'Nathan' Type M-3RT1 Airhorn has been correctly mounted on the cab a steam generator stack and mushroom vent have been placed on the roof behind the cab lift rings mounted in the roof where appropiate coupler cut bars and brake hoses have been added to the pilots formed brass wire handrails with brass stantions were used along the sides of the loco to accommodate the extra battery box. door louvers were removed from the sides of the long hood leaving only a pair of vertical vents to better represent the vent configurations found the later RS3 Phase III's.
All pics were done by the builder...

Hey All,
This is my pick for this week. I just got it so I don't know much about it other than it is a Playart product. It is an F9 and it says RAILROAD FIRE DEPT. on the side, with a latter mounted on it LOL. It runs great. Please see the Fathers Day post for the rest of the cars.
Thanks Mike

They were scratch built. The sides of the battery boxes are foil that were made by placing the foil over a Stewart RS3 battery box and rubbing it untill the detail was transfered. I also put a can motor in place of the AHM armature and magnet.

Gareth. Are yours 4 or 8 wheel drive? The one Cheez has is the 8WD . The ones Shaygetz, Jeremy and I posted are 4WD. You can get the 4WD ones to run decent with some tinkering but the 8WD locos with 8 wheel pickup added if they don't already have it run great. The 4WD locos had a problen with the motors overheating and warping the top plate that holds the brushes and the top bearing. The armature would then lock up and fry.

Hey Ray:
My CP and Monon are 8 wheel drive. The LV is a Dummy... It should have stayed in school [:D]
Didn't you do a thing on 2GuyZ about adding pick-ups to the AHM 8 wheel drive/4 wheel P-up units?

Won this mint Silver Streak loco off the bay the other week for $9.99. I rate the chrome a 10 on a scale of 1-10. No finger smudges-a little dust from being in box on cat walk and roof crevices--not noticable in picture though. It is very rare to find these in pristine condition. This makes my 3rd find as i scored 2 mint never touched or removed from box except by me with rubber surgical gloves last year. THis loco has been ran as motor is burnt -but going to be re-motored with a MU drive. Based on conditon of loco -would say it was ran maybe once and motor gave out--as many of us know or experienced--probably ran good on Christmas morning and that was it for this one and stored away--just a guess.

This is a version of a Dewitt Geep from an AHM 8WD RS3 . I forget the particulars but they were repowered with an EMD prime mover. The idea came from a magazine article that used an Atlas RS2 engine. I lost enterest in it by the time I got CR decals. The stacks on the prototype were from a SW 1200, that I didn't have so, I did what I could. The fans on the long hood came from an F7A. Just something I did 20+ years ago.

Your model reminded me of this picture from my Grandfather - the year is unknown, I would guess that it is circa 1920s or even earlier.
