Was going to make this a Loose End but what the hey (hay?).
Finally took it upon myself to make what Tyco SHOULD have:

I masked & painted the door, then scanned the car and created a custom color decal for the "X-Arrow" logo, stuck right on top of the factory black one (you can just barely make out traces of it).
I've always loved the railbox in real life and always wished Tyco had run their earlier, superior full-color artwork on the later modernized (correct) boxcar tooling. At least now I know what it would have looked like...

Nice job on the logo, the color was always so much better.
My car for this week is a red box era Tyco Rutland 40' box car. I love the colors.

MDC/Roundhouse "Three-in-one" Rotary Plow kit. From the boxlot that kickstarted me back into the hobby after a 4 year self imposed hiatus, it had been started but not finished by its previous owner. I carved off all the molded on railings and finished it as best I could from pictures I could find. My beloved was pleased with the results and I've been back in the hobby ever since. The roadname comes from our initials and the number comes from her age when I finished it 15 years ago.

Hey All,
Nice stuff! I have a Lima pass. car that was given to me by a friend yesterday. It's a one of a kind for me. I know nothing about it other than it's made in Italy.

Hello,
this Lima coach is a so called "Corbellini"-Coach, whoever Mr. Corbellini was. Italian State Ry. used these until the 1980´s for local trains. The model itself it quite rare, it was made from 1965 until 1971.
My car for this week is the same in gray, never catalogued, and a unusual version of the one before.

Here ist the babelfish translation of what wikipedia says about these coaches:
quote:| The Corbellini cars are railway cars that were constructed between il1951 and 1953 and that they remained in service on the FS till the years ' 80. The name derives from that one of the minister of the Transports in the period of the post-war reconstruction, Guides Corbellini, than of it ordered 516 exemplary. Initially conceived like cars of third class, were riclassificate like cars of second (or mixed/before second) to continuation dell' abolition of the third class in all Europe happened in 1956. They were planned for local trains with strong crowding, and characterized from a double door of access to a vestibolo centers them. The inner seats, in wood like on the " centoporte" , successively covered from a padding on the head rest and the plan of sitting, they offered 68 places. The heating was to vapor or electrical worker. The cars had, in various ages, the three classic colorations brown-isabella (age III a), brown (age III b) and gray slate (age IV). They were catalogued with the number 5083 (Bz 5083 for the second class, AB 5083 for the mixed cars and before second). Currently some exemplary on hand of the historical trains survive. |
Still this is babelfish.....

| Nice set--I believe those were referred to as Mantua "Heavies." Good, solid cars, body-mounted couplers. I could be mistaken, but I believe early (80's) versions may have been made in USA, but I know later versions were China. Nice cross-over appeal with Matchbox.

| Those Lima coaches are pretty cool. They remind me of smaller versions of the CNW/Rock Island/Metra (Chicago) double-deck commuter cars.

Hey Ken,
Love the Mantua Matchbox Set...Very Cool! If you get a chance, please provide me with a bigger scan of the advertisement for this set. I'd like to include it and your pics of the loco and cars on the Mantua site in the near future.
Thanks,
Tony
