I am the proud owner of a TYCO, ALOC Super 630. This unit is configured with a single motor in the rear, connected to a gear box in the center of the unit that drives both trucks through a short drive shaft. Under the Super 630 page of this site, it states this is simular to a Rivarossi configuration of the early '70s era. My question. Does anyone have any additional information on this unit? Model, Colors, etc.
I hope I have requested this information correctly. This is my first posting, ever. Will learn to do better.

Hello

I've seen examples of the early Super 630 model in Illinois Central Gulf and Delaware & Hudson only to date. Have assumed that a red and silver Santa Fe may also exist for this version of the model, but have not seen one. This guess on the Santa Fe example of the early 630 is based only on the fact that it appears with the ICG and D&H models in the 1973-74 catalog. Again, I've only seen and possess ICG and D&H models for the early Super 630.

Besides the different drive, underframe and trucks, it's worth noting that his early example Super 630 also has two less slots cut out for locating pins down its long hood. TYCO later adds two open slots on the shell above the fuel tank area for the tank to snap into the shell. The early Super 630 only has the open slots for its trucks to snap in place, though I don't even think it actually needs them. The couple examples I own have a full underframe that the shell rests upon.

D&H Super 630:

I also have a D&H Super 630 but can't tell if it's one of the early ones or not. On the weight underneath it says Mantua Tyco. It has nice railings, but it appears like my GG-1 (Tyco) that only one truck does pick-up and the other provides power. can anyone help clarify?

Cheers,
Gareth

I have a pair of Super 630s like romcat discribed. I assume these were produced right after the full underframe version.
