My dad just dug the electric trains from my childhood out the attic for me. I have taken an interest in restoring them to running condition. This includes two late 70's/early 80's tyco shark nose diesel engines. I have cleaned the track and wheels and got one of the engines running. Can any body tell me what maintenance (lubrication points, and recommened oils) I should perform on these pieces. I have no service literature in the boxes. The other engine requires parts. Is EBAY the best source to aquire these?
Thanks, Ray

Hello
I would suggest that finding a "new in box" or a Shark that someone has stated is in working order on eBay might provide you with what you need to make your pair of Sharks operable. The Shark model is common and easily found on eBay and at local train swap meets.
There are a couple lubrication points on the PowerTorque truck/motor. Funny you bring this problem up, as I was just scanning TYCO instruction sheets for lubrication and smoke fluid info the other day. I will have info posted on the TYCO site shortly regarding what the company provided with respect to instructions for use and maintenance.
You may also be in need of the rubber traction tires that fit on the powered truck. Take a look at your Sharks and one truck, I think the lead one, should have a ridge that a rubber ring traction tire fits on to help give the unit more tractive effort. Over the years, these tend to dry out and become brittle and crack off. If missing, they can be replaced with Stewart Products Super Traction Tires kit for around $5. This kit is available at many/most hobby shops and can be found at online sellers too.
I will post links to the TYCO maintenance page when it is finished. Should have it online within a few days.
Thanks
