I took a chance and won a bid on a alleged Mantua SF 4301 with the 1776 4301 So76 type truck covers and seperate coupler boxes. Is this a Mantua variation? I know it would be easy to convert to look like the So76 running gear. It has the Mantua weight and body w/out the snap-in tank.

Alco fan--some of the Mantua/tyco SO76 have the screw on tank with power torque drives. This was around the merger with CF foods which would date roughly 1974-75. It is legit. I have bought both and one had the Mu drive and the other a power torque.

Brianstyco, Thanks. I thought I was seeing things. The Mantua Tyco Santa Fe 430 Alco arrived today and looks new if at all used, no box or rails. It has a PT like the So76 430s and like the early 630s and a screw in tank and the truck covers with the seperate coupler boxes. I thought I was buying them for parts, I also got a PHII Chessie 630 missing a front plow but in little used condition no box no rails, very clean. I think this Mantua Tyco Sante Fe Alco 430 is another version that we haven't heard much about.
PS: It looks to have a MKI PT, as GiC describes, with the brass pinion. And it appears to be pristine, handled very little.
