I am always seeking help. Thanks in advance. Bought a box full of Tyco at an antique show. The Backman Santa Fe engine, found in the bottom of the box as an unexpected surprise works great. The Burlington Northern, third version, GP-20 squeaks going forward until it warms up, then runs great. Have cleaned the wheels and lighly oiled them. Replaced the light and a coupler. Won't go in reverse without hand help and does make noise as if gear is not engaged. Did I mess up something when I cleaned the wheels? Any suggestions as to repair as always greatly appreciated. Is it the wheels that are squeaky? Have you oiled the axles on the unpowered truck?

What kind of noise is it? Is it a loud buzzing that sounds like the motor is turning, but the engine doesn't go anywhere? If it's what I'm thinking of, it may be that the small metal gear is loose on the drive shaft. The way I fix this is by putting the motor on its side, and then putting a drop of super glue on the centre of the gear to bond it to the drive shaft.

Hope that helps.
